Re: Election for ISSA BOD 2025

Jani from the voting forum wrote:Voting is now closed (we're now Jan 10, 23.00 - 11 pm CET).

We're checking the results before posting the official result.

The "public" vote is as follows:

Bruno 39 votes
Gustavs 36 votes
Colin 11 votes

Thus Bruno and Gustavs are clearly ahead.

The next step in our check was to validate that those that voted were actually eligible to vote in this election. In the first count, we've validated well more than 12 votes for both Bruno and Gustavs. That is enough for us to announce that Bruno and Gustavs have been elected to be part of the ISSA BOD for 2025. We'll thus announce the results as such!

Thank you all for your participation!
We will now set up the new BOD 2025.

And after that directly look over all our working groups. We will make a special announcement for this very soon.

On Dec 19, Colin Beck (Australia) submitted his candidacy to be part of the BOD 2025, and did so with the following note:

- - - - -

I wish to join the Board of the ISSA, and have attached my resume in support of my application [Not available online].

Here's a brief summary of my experience:

- Skater since 1972
- Co-founded ASRA in 2006, and served as board member for 7 years
- IDF Board member for 6 years, with extensive world travel to events.
- Member of the World Skate Downhill Technical Commission since 2022.
- Extensive experience creating spreadsheets and timing systems for skateboard racing
- All-round IT skills

While I don't have a radical vision for changing the ISSA I'd like to see greater collaboration with both World Skate and the Downhill Skateboard world. My experience in all these worlds makes me a good person to further that goal.

Gustavs has accepted this nomination and posted the following:

Gustavs Gailitis
ISSA—International Slalom Skateboarding Association Thank you. It is an honor, and I accept the nomination. I believe that my knowledge and experience in the sport as a racer, organizer, and youth coach for the past twenty years will be useful in pushing slalom skateboarding forward and attracting more young riders and organizers to the sport.

Election of new BOD member(s) for 2025

Since the ISSA announced the collaboration with World Skate in 2021, we have not held annual elections to the Board of Directors (BOD). That reason was that we signed an agreement with World Skate covering the period up until end of 2024, such that the members of the BOD would also serve on the World Skate Slalom Skateboarding Working Group.

In that contract we had agreed that following the end of the that initial contract it would be up to World Skate to decide upon the continuation of the slalom skateboarding within World Skate, and who would form that Working Group. Given the success of slalom racing at the 2022 and 2024 World Skate Games, we have the green light for a continued, and accelerated collaboration.

In the past period the ISSA has had a BOD of 7 persons, whereas the working groups within World Skate, typically consists of 5 persons. To continue the work together in the smoothest way, we’ve thus decided to reduce also the ISSA BOD to 5 persons.

During 2024, and prior to the Worlds in Italy, both Joe McLaren and Janis Kuzmins stepped down due to personal reasons, leaving 5 persons in the BOD in the last months of preparations of the race. Fortunately, another 7 persons joined in the execution, and together we pulled off the most awesome race, so far, in the history of slalom racing.

We are now back to the regular routine of putting half of the BOD positions up for vote each year. That means that we are now open to nominations for two positions, and for a duration of two years. Next autumn, we’ll renew three positions.

As long as our collaboration with World Skate continues the current way, being on the ISSA BOD also means you are part of the World Skate Slalom Skateboarding Working Group.

The two positions up for grabs are those of Bruno and Jani. Bruno wishes to stay and is accepting re-election, whereas Jani has decided to take a year (or two) off and focus on other stuff. Thus, in essence only one new BOD member is needed. Nominations are now open until December 20, and must be publicly posted in response to this announcement, and also confirmed by email to BOD@slalomskateboarder.com.

If there are more than two serious and accepted nominations, we’ll prepare for elections to be held in the first part of January 2025. Voting rights are then attributed to those that have participated in at least one ISSA sanctioned race in 2024, and those that have paid, or free, memberships, including current BOD members. If you are not in any of these categories, and wish to participate in the vote, new members are welcome to pay their membership fee (USD 15) up until Dec 31, 2024 using the PayPal link on the SlalomSkateboarder.com home page.
