Re: Tight Slalom, Bicknell Hill, 9-2-11, after dark
What happened: Gilmour set up a massive station with platters & speakers and the works at the bottom of the hill and fired up the disco music. We practiced for a bit before a kids race was run briefly at the bottom of the hill. After that the main race began. Maysey, Floyd, Tiger, Zak, Gilmour, Dave...

[2011] Tight Slalom, Bicknell Hill, Sep 2, after dark

Hey John, great talking to you yesterday. I'm inspired and really looking forward to getting a scene going in our area. Who knows, maybe some day we can get somebody into the rankings to give Richy some SoCal company.

Re: Does anyone care about ranking?
I agree the ranking is important. I agree that the standards need to be high and the aspirations higher. - but - It's always someone else who isn't doing what's necessary. In case you were wondering, it's OK for you to put on a race here. As a Santa Monica Bay native who has spent most of his life s...

#1 for super G is the hill: It needs to be big, steep and fast. Individual cone spacing can be 40, 60 feet or more although the average may be less. The point of super G is speed. I like to think of technical GS and super G as distinctly different types of courses. In a real super G, you might have ...

Not to run out of cones, one could make circle with diameter of 50 meters and lay down there cones on every 160cm, so one round will be 100 cones. Then you just start to count rounds done without cones down yeah that would be fun if two racers went in opposite directions. or they could go in the sa...

OK, it's a nutty thought. Maybe to be more accurate I should have called it "challenging", which no one would dispute, rather than "fun". Still, I'll do it. I actually enjoy running cones. I'm already looking for places to set up long, long runs of cones. I'm not even thinking of straight, even rows...

Record for most clean cones - new category?
Now that Richy has the record for 100 cones clean (congrats Richy!), the thought occurred to me that it might be fun to have another record for the most cones clean in one run. We could set 200, 300 or longer courses and see who could run them all clean. Granted it would take a very special spot to ...

I think Corky's list of "included" races is meant to be read as "most recently included". The rankings seem to be multi-year.

I said "set screw" but it could easily be a roll or small drift pin based on the photo. It still remains the only straight axle I've seen with some sort of set hardware. Here's another example, an Indy 101 with true ball pivot & 8mm axle. The 8mm upgrades that I did myself used loctite but for this...

100 cone fixed cone spacing
I've always wondered why the 100 cone doesn't have a specific cone spacing. I think it would provide a better apples-to-apples comparison of times. Putting aside the issue of slope variation, can someone provide a sound argument for not having a cone spacing requirement?

DO IT
Jack, I'm hopeful that you'll still hold the event at the given status level. I doubt any of the pros' big sponsorship contracts will suffer too badly from it. We need to try out the 'new' format. If you hold it, they will come. The upper level racers I've spoken to are interested to try it.

My cone cache includes numerous soccer cones with the bases trimmed off. There are places in the "toy district" of downtown Los Angeles where you can get good, solid soccer cones for less than $0.50 each. Their size is almost identical to the Seismic (Turner) cones, although they are slightly lighte...
