Re: First time board setup: truck angles on a Skaterbuilt Hy
Hi Tim, You have all the right pieces and you're assuming correctly that moving the rear truck back is the current trend with a kicktailed board. I've started new slalomers on 16-18in. wheelbases and had good luck getting them accelerating through cones with very "dead" rear steering angles and bush...

Brian, If you practice these simple courses you'll start to realize which side you're weak at...then be sure to practice your weak side the most... Remember when I I suggested you watch Dave Pirnack? IMHO I feel he has a very balanced and squared up technique (heelside turns are near equal power to ...

Joe, I'd have to go along with Ron and suggest the RTS... If you're setting your deck up correctly for slalom i.e. w/ the rear truk steering less than the front... the rear truk actually tracks INSIDE the line the front is tracking on in a turn... so a wider rear truk will have more chance to do the...

Larry, the Midnite Special is slightly concave and cambered... I foam wedged the rails and cut a wedge kicktail for it and loved it!! The Sled Zep is as full shaped in front as the Special with a trimmer tail and has a rather aggressive "warp" style kicktail... this was a dream deck of mine and Cfav...

Wes, I think the home team may have an advantage with the conditions, i.e. the sun is pretty high and intense down there south of the half court line... Mr. Kolwalski might keep his tan in tune under a disco ball and I think Fadell might be genetically pardoned, but Konigshausen sounds pretty "sunbu...

Reducing wedge won't let the front steer as acutely across the fall line ... so it should stick even better?? Are you letting your weight get a little biased towards the rear? (I did this when I first started. Like I was trying to kickturn my toe side turns out of habit from ramp riding...) Just a t...

I was given a gracious go on Lavin's setup this past weekend and although I have my own design, I too was very impressed with the overall execution of this stunning deck! Also, I observed Ol' Topsider wearing proper skate shoes this weekend.... Maybe to extract every once of performance he could out...

Doug, I take 20* of steering out of an RTS on a flat deck. (never had it on a kicked deck) you'll need a pile of wedges to detune it on a kicktailed deck..... at least to my liking... :-) Something I've played with off and on with my kicktail decks is to move the rear truck as far back and up the ki...

Doug, If you ride heavily surf stance biased, you're toeside position will be the most powerful side since you're using all of your bodies most powerful muscle groups all in one thrust... If you angle your toes more forward pointing to the nose you'll see that your toe side pump will diminish a litt...

Yeah Wes, It does look to be pinned as the drilling looks to be off center to the axle which makes sense engineering wise... I posted elsewere that I'd like to see Bennett conquer a small run of specialty "racing" trucks on the front end of manufacture and hopefully keep the costs down for newbs on ...

Gordon, If you're really into TS, be sure and invest in an assortment of wheel sizes also...as in smaller. Controlling your speed in super technical courses is easier while managing less inertia/mass... and don't be afraid to use smaller wheels just in front if you can't seem to "catch up" to the co...

a bit cheaper than a front truck....
Mark, If you're looking for quicker transitions for tighter courses try a smaller wheel diameter on the front truck like a 66mm Zig Zag or a 62mm Seismic Cambria. you'll give up some roll speed but sometimes that's the trade off you'll have to make to stay in bounds on more technical courses... the ...
