4) It appears that you are against racers actually practicing and gaining skill in race starts.... Why is this method of gaining an "advantage" bad? No, I am for seeing the benefit of training 'in the course' not on the ramp.personally I want to see the fastest racer through the course rewarded, no...

Section 5.2
I'm surprised the vote on Starts is going the way of the countdown beeps....It just makes more sense to me to make it random so that no-one has an advantage. Those with lots of race practice (or a good set-up at home) will be at an advantage over the less frequent racer. How many people in the heat ...

Now my question is: are those specifications meant to be determining the Pro or the Am class, or both (which wouldn't really make sense)...? Re: damn right!
then again, it just the overall. You're not really good at anything, so you got the overall. Why bother with it, lets celebrate the real heros, the ones who really made an effort and won some (probably tight) races. Skip the sad overall title and divide the money and fame into three. Some good word...

The following discussion has occured on another topic and I think it belongs in here: I did not say same courses for everyone, just separate who's faster this given day by it's qualif time, it could work. Those little differences...
I don't think the difference between Pro and Am should just be speed...it should be skill too! The current system in Europe has meant different courses for the two groups, this means that the pros need to be able to negotiate more technical courses. In TS/Special this means tighter, more rhythm brea...

Martin, The crazy thing about all of this is that when we were first starting the IGSA back in 1996, we actually contacted Jani and asked his permission to use parts of the ISSA Rulebook as a guideline for our first rulebook. We've managed to build downhill from absolutely nothing to where it is to...

Re: New Slalom Spots?
OK, I know that we're in the market for spots to dodge cones. I moved to the South-West part of the Salt Lake Valley recently, and there's a fair ammount of constuction going on, which means new roads going in constantly. Here's a few I've found that will probably be skateable for the next while, i...

Re: Different courses.
Has there ever been a different course of HS, GS or SGS for Pros and Ams? (I'm not 100% sure, but I guess it's not) To me it seems completely reasonable to have different courses also in these disciplines, if there is a good reason for it. The upcoming Dixie cup seems to have different starting pos...

Maybe I'm missing something, but if a lot of time, effort etc is put in by several people to make the race work and there is great publicity, a good crowd, TV etc...Doesn't it suck if the course is not challenging enough, impossible or so easy that no-one hits cones all day? Game, set....match!
On a few occasions I have been to a race where the course was not representative of where 'racing' was at, at the time ie. set too wide for a true TS, too across the hill for a GS thus robbing the run of real speed etc. On each of these occasions the course setter has been an 'ex-racer' who has not ...

For years now in Europe there have been seperate courses for Ams and Pros and as I see it, it has had the following advantages: -A vehicle to show a high level of technical skill for the Pros where they are tested on a course appropriate to their skillset. -An Am course that does the same for their ...

Cone DQ's
- let the racer's hit Cones as much as they can. I couldn't disagree more! It just makes it look as if we really are not very good at what we do and that there is no reward for precision. I watched fast runs at the Euro Champs and saw cone counts around 13, 14 or 15. It looks terrible no matter how...

And if you have specific "steepness" specifications for the various disciplines -- I'd like to see those too. Well, this has been the bane of slalom skaters now since time immemorial. We can guess, we can take pictures, we can describe but it's almost impossible to know a hills' grade without being...
