ISSA Status for La Costa (San Diego) Open

The ISSA North American contest coordinators reluctantly anounce that the San Diego Open (aka La Costa Open) contest (October 19th) will be downgraded from MAIN status to PRIME status. This is due to the rejection of the permit to run the contest on El Fuerte street and the move to the Pump Station ...

Ramp vs push start vs sanctioning......

The ISSA currently sanctions events that run from the World Championships to a spur-of-the-moment local outlaw event. I think start ramps should be required for the higher-status events (Main, Major) because they give a more professional appearance to the spectators. Ramps also are preferred for eve...

If 4 hampsters are acceptable, then what about 6? Every skateboard contest since the creation of the universe has always allowed 6 hampsters (nothing in the rules to prevent more than 4 hampsters). Yes, big races cost a lot to put on. It is unfortunate, but most of those costs must be paid through entry fees. Contest organizers don't have a money tree. Maybe a silly question, but... How about issues with using alternating colors (such as red for heelside and white for toeside)? For all of the races where I am the timer, I always insist on having the RED cones on the right (as you go downhill), and the WHITE cones on the left. Why? The ISSA rules need to be updated (for many reasons --- a minor reason is for the 6-wheel determination). Don't look at the cones you are turning around

Cole,

I suggest that you might try looking several cones ahead of where you are turning. Looking directly at the cone you are steering around can cause problems. You need to be looking several cones ahead -- like maybe 4 cones or so (even more as you go faster).

That might help a bit.
