WLAC versus Mammoth?
As you may have already heard, the WLAC construction should be underway now, and the permit to use Sophomore Drive will take months to get worked out (it involves negotiations between LA County and WLAC that are bigger than us), meaning our next chance to race there will probably be October. I'll ke...

WLAC on 6/13 and beyond
Steve, thanks for beating me to the post. Sorry to everyone for the late notice, it's been an ordeal getting this set up. We're hoping that they'll delay the start of construction for a week, so that we can get in another race in 2 weeks, but we won't know until at least the end of this week. Once c...

Permit progress
We're working on the permits now, but the new guy in administration that we got established with last year is gone, so it's not as easy as we hoped. The state budget woes have effected office staff, leaving the survivors swamped. However, we're still working towards opening day in late May. I'll pos...

WLAC formats
We've always had just timed downhill runs at WLAC. No style contests or flat events (at least yet). The tight slalom has been skateboard only, although if there was interest in it from inliners I presume we would go ahead and add that. We've always managed to get everyone's runs in, and in a way it'...

At WLAC we've found that inlines worked fine in the GS, but tight slalom was not popular for inline, so we've only done a few runs of inline tight slalom. I'm interested in what made inlines a "huge mistake" in Paris. More specifics would be good to help us avoid repeating their mistake, since we do...

IGSA WLAC World Cup Races?
I've been chatting with Marcus about the 2004 season. He's interested in adding world cup races to the WLAC regional races. These might take place at the world cup street luge races. For example, there was a slalom demo race last year in Austria at Hot Heels in the evening. I think another good cand...

2004 Season Teaser
Yes, we'll be back in 2004! The insurance is in place. We're waiting to see when other bigger events will be before filing our permit application (which should be all fine, based on our conversations with the college and 10 years of history). Hopefully it'll be racing from May through November again...

Hey Vlad, I can't even finish the course on a skateboard! But in general I think inline is slightly faster for a top racer on GS, and the faster the course the bigger the difference. For a really tight course like JPL, it seems like skateboard is faster. And for tight slalom, skateboard is definitel...

I just read about the creation of the USSSF and wanted to say that it's good to see slalom skateboarding growing, and having an organization based on the east coast sounds like a good thing. If anyone's interested in borrowing the IGSA rules as a starting point, have a look at them at http://www.gra...

Hi All, Our next event is at West LA College on October 6. It will feature tight slalom and skates and gates slalom (a course set similar to a GS, but with a little tighter spacing, and using poles similar to ski racing). Details for this one are posted at: http://www.ncdsa.com/contest_registration....
