Jack Smith wrote:Hey Stevie,

I'm glad to see this forum. We really need to encourage the younger skaters to give slalom a try. Let me know if I can help?

Are you going to the Bicknell Blitz?
Thanks Jack. I am going to Bicknell. Race #1 for moi.

BICKNELL BLITZ

The Bicknell Blitz is a nighttime outlaw race that Attila is putting on in south Santa Monica/north Venice at the famous Bicknell Hill access road to beach parking (See "Dogtown & Z-Boys"). It's a short and relatively steep little spot. The race will be 30 x 6' cones, no offsets. Fast and tight! It'...

Slalomers in San Pedro

Hey all, Adam started up this new Southern California forum at my request. Then he made me moderator. Oops! Trust me everybody, I'm not trying to put myself forward as anything special. I've already told Adam that I'll just stand in until a better local rider comes forward to do justice to the role....

I was over at Anderson Plywood looking at Baltic Birch and there it was: A 4x8 sheet of 7-ply with the purple phenolic glue. As I gazed, the image of 15 Plankks appeared written in fiery dotted lines, waiting to be cut out.

Then again, at my weight I need 9-ply.

Gareth - The people I know who have them all say that they never use most of the adjustment features of the trucks. I've listened to a very well-known skater ranting about the overly adjustable nature of the trucks. It seems they are generally adjusted once or twice and then left that way. The point...

If Peter could produce them for a lot less money I'd consider buying at least one to use as a back truck. $100 range?

I think [someone] needs to be clever enough to produce a cheaper version without so many largely unused bells and whistles.

Base & kingpin inaccuracy

I'm noticing that every Tracker or Indy baseplate I've got has a discrepancy in kingpin centering. The kingpin does not come up exactly between the mounting holes, as one would hope, but is off to one side slighly. Worse, some of the kingpins are listing slightly, in the plane where they are suppose...

specially lubricated receptacle end

About a month ago I asked Chris & Brent about the missing shield. Their answer was that a shield isn't needed on the inside of the bearing, where it is protected inside the wheel. Unlike a normal bearing, a Biltin always has the same side in and thus needs no shield there.

...speaking of "ride what you like"... Has anyone ever seriously tweaked Exkates for slalom? They are such a great truck for longboarding and turn extremely quickly, having the same basic geometry as Seismic or PVD. I remember seeing pictures somewhere of those massive Exkate bushings shaved down. I...

Steve, do you use red springs in the back? Yellows were too soft for my 165 lbs. The stock yellows that came in the back were WAY too soft for my 220 lbs. I've got the newer dark green medium springs in there now. In the spirit of appearing somewhat centrist fot the election year, "Better Green tha...

Aluminum Seismics

I know everyone has been typically using Seismics as front trucks. Lately I've found them to be a great back truck with the stiffer springs. I've got a Comet Cross with a 30 degree 105 back end (Abec 11 Gumballs 81a) that has unbelievable grab. I'm talking rock solid traction and projection from a v...

Right now I'm looking into lipping the inside face of the trimmed NoSkoolz so that they'll fit the 105s. I've got Gumballs that fit on the 105s so perfectly, it's as if the wheels and trucks were designed specifically for each other. The wheel lip and hanger bevel are mated exactly with the perfect ...

I've got 65mm NoSkoolz with the radii on both sides trimmed off. They will not go onto my 105mm aluminum Seismics. The wheel runs into the hanger.

Fortunately, the trimmed Flashbacks fit on just fine.

If I could afford Radikals or PVDs I'm sure I'd like them best, or at least would feel obligated to say so after paying the entrance price ;) I did ride PVDs once, but I was too lame then to say what was up.
