Drove in? Check. Arrived late? Check. Smoked the course? The jury's still out on that one. Dunno if Rick's going to set the same course, but if he does, expect a lot of sideways g-forces, i.e. BIG offsets. Typical internal monologue on last year's course: There's no good way of discerning How much l...

SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY!!!
Just spoke to Goad, briefly. THE RACE IS SUNDAY, MAY 29. We MAY be able to have a session, just for fun, on Saturday, but the official race itself is Sunday; that's the day he's got permission for. As I understand it, the thinking was, since it's Memorial Day weekend, most people would have Monday o...

Hey, Ricky (or Frank or other Miss'ippians), any chance of us hitting some of those MS fullpipes while we're down there? If we're not too blown out after the races, we might want to check 'em out on the way home.

Here's some preliminary poop, guys. SLALOM RACE ON MAY 29, 2005. As of March 16, 2005, it looks like it'll be a "permission" event, i.e. Goad got the go-ahead from the park's events coordinator to hold a race. Push start or ramp start is possible--hasn't been decided. THE COURSE: Goad says it's gonn...

Loes, You don't say where you're from, but since you mentioned Indiana, I'm guessing it's somewhere in Europe. I haven't ridden an Indiana board, but I've seen several people who have, including Maurus Strobel, so I'm sure they work just fine. They seem narrower than most other companies' boards, an...

Unless I get a raise at work, I'll probably only make it to the "driveable" races: Luna, Red Clay, Chicago (?), and West Virginia--and St. Louis, if we get the go-ahead. With a bit of luck I might be able to pull a "Gilmour" and show up at the last minute somewhere. (Or is that a "WesE"?) :-) Then a...

Do the wheels behave predictably when you mount them like that? I have never tried it with Manx (don't own any), but I tried it with Cambrias a couple of years ago and it felt very weird--very unstable with no grip. St. Louis Memorial Day Race
Jani, On May 29 and May 30, 2004, a small grassroots race was held in St. Louis, MO (USA Midwest). On May 29 we did a jam-style, single-lane hybrid course of approximately 40 (?) cones, and on May 30 we did a dual-lane straight slalom (i.e., there were no offset cones, although the road itself made ...

Regarding a maximum wheel size for slalom: I'm surprised that no one has made the (to me) common-sense argument of "natural selection," i.e., that the type of course itself will almost always dictate what type of wheel to use. Tight slalom? Who in his or her right mind would use a 92mm Flywheel? Hyb...
