Here's another idea.

You could look at all the courses documented for this purpose as a sort of "template slalom courses".

So when you want to run some slalom you set your course according to one of the existing templates.

You run it, take the time and voilà!
You just did some "Template slalom".

Andy The average method works fine when using it as I described. But using it all alone as in your case I agrée that it doesn't work well. Offsets could be a parameter as well. But I wonder if that won't be resolved by itself using the cone distances. As I see it each discipline has a unique min and max AVERAGE cone distance. Just some words on the pro/am concerns. The way I see it it's not correctly formulated the way I see it. Pro or amateaur is not an ability label.
