Glenn, At the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1987, I pumped my Turner to a top end speed of 244 MPH. Of course, this is unverified. Seems someone forgot to take off the lens cover! P.S. Seriously, the age-old question: are you referring to a sustained average speed or a top speed in a sprint? There...

Hans, It's interesting that you use the word "parameters." In another life when the world was young, I was really into synthesizers and MIDI technology. What I always found so fabulous about the guys who developed synthesizers is how they were able to successfully "catagorize" each element of a part...

Hans (and maybe JG, too,) This is one of the reasons why I think we as skaters should get away from the "course labels" altogether. With the possible exception of GIANT SLALOM, where I think it's pretty self evident and big board and big wheels are sufficient, all this "tight-hybrid-slalom" stuff is...

Hans, I would say my answer would be "D" with ONE CHANGE: "D. You don't do your best. The other win but you know that if you would have done your best you (would) COULD have won." I would never finish a race and look back and say, "if only I'd been more on my game I WOULD have won!" The reason is si...

I guess y'all missed my point, which I can understand because sometimes when I go on a tirade I tend to get incoherent. I wasn't trying to ask whether or not sandbagging or some other performance issue was important. My question is "why should I as a racer concern myself one way or the other with wh...

I keep reading all these issues regarding things like sandbagging, criddling, being open instead of pro, etc. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this sure does sound like racers spending a whole lot of time worrying about what other racers are doing. If a competitor spends all his time improving his own p...

Mike, Would you also suggest the BOTTOM TEN in the Pro Ranks move to the Open Class? Also, I don't want to get too pedantic, but I have to say I don't like the idea that going from Pro to Open is moving "Up" or "Down." Being an "Open" racer should not and does not qualify as being "lower" or "less."...

One other thing: there's a BIG difference between RUNNING for the money and WINNING money. If a skater decides to try and qualify as a pro, that doesn't necessarily automatically make him a pro. It's the CASH that matters. So someone (like ME) makes the decision to attempt to qualify as a pro doesn'...

My only issue with all this is whether or not you can go back and forth. I said this last spring and I'll repeat it here: once you take money, no matter the denomination, you're a PRO. Sure, you might kick yourself later because you find yourself in contests later in life where the competition is bl...

I really think y'all are hung up way too much on DISTANCES and not enough on RELATIVE SPEED. A 6-foot course on flat IS NOT tight. I do it first thing everytime I practice. Big deal. An 8-foot course, though, on a 15% grade is EXTREMELY tight. Again, it's the not the cone spacing that makes a course...
