Danny... While I appreciate the implied respect, please feel free to call me Andy, or GBJ. Mr. Bittner is my father. You are entirely welcome to skate around and bomb the hills in Seneca Creek State Park all you want, during The 5th Gathering or any other time they're open for that matter, but I mus...

Proposed Schedule
When I first announced The 5th Gathering: It's All About Slalom, I proposed that this year would see an increase in organization and scheduling, since that time, I haven't had any time to do any scheduling. I know I said I would, but I simply have not had any time. I know I am planning to focus on j...

Good Advice
Mike, Watching and learning from Simon Levene is always good advice. The first time I ever saw him skate (on video in the 80's), it instantly modified my slalom technique (for the better) and I'd already been skating slalom for nearly 20 years at that point. However, listening to and learning from S...

Age Factor
Wesley, Your very astute observations lead me to also wonder whether the average age of the racers has gotten younger, and whether younger skaters rebound from "heavy" falls faster than us old folk.

Great video. It makes me want to make the trip.
On another point, witness the incredibly efficient and effective arm action of Ur13. From the Gilmour school, but even more well timed and fluid.
Thanks, Tway. Nice WB ad. (WB, right?)

Grass Roots Gathering?
Sure, whatever. If grass roots means "been there since the beginning, brought a lot of people to the sport, and contributed significantly to the current level of 'success' enjoyed by slalom skateboarding", then sure... The Gathering is a grass roots event. Most of all, The Gatherings are fun for mos...

Cone Spacing
Steve, It's not that anybody's dissing you, it's just that there are no "standard" cone spacings. To many of us, standardizing course set-ups is almost an antithesis to what is best about the sport. Slalom skateboarding is racing with variety. We're not hanging on to a rope attached to the back of a...

Routine Maintenance
Not to worry. Some of the utilities (sewer or water) running to the restroom facility pass under the road down there. They seem to have some need to open that little trench across the road every couple of years, and they've always done an excellent job of returning it to "not an issue" status.

Before we get too far down the planning path, I think it's wise to remember that, just because we think it's a good idea doesn't mean the rest of the world will agree. Golf 100 years ago is a great comparison, Corky, and we're not even really on that level yet. Preferences
Seth, It has little or nothing to do with youth. It has everything to do with 'to each his own'. I'm certain that, among others of all ages, Tony Alva and Tony Hawk would both echo your preference for grinds over cones.
Me? Having skated both, I'll take a good, fast slalom course over a pool anyday.
