Here's another idea.
You could look at all the courses documented for this purpose as a sort of "template slalom courses".
So when you want to run some slalom you set your course according to one of the existing templates.
You run it, take the time and voilà!
You just did some "Template slalom".

John, I'm sending you over the graph with your values. Hopefully without any errors. One of the things I "tweaked" into my suggestion was to erase any "black holes". Andy The average method works fine when using it as I described. But using it all alone as in your case I agrée that it doesn't work well. Offsets could be a parameter as well. But I wonder if that won't be resolved by itself using the cone distances. As I see it each discipline has a unique min and max AVERAGE cone distance. They also have min and max ALLOWED cone distances. So with a tight slalom course you will not have the same pos...

Just some words on the pro/am concerns. The way I see it it's not correctly formulated the way I see it. Pro or amateaur is not an ability label. Brian, I was administrating the ISSA ranking a couple of years until the european slalom scene went dead end of 1995. That ranking was meant as a world ranking. Skyhooks: Cheating or not?
I saw a picture of a slalom board in the "General slalom skateboard deck discussion" with a skyhook in front. This to avoid the front foot from moving. The advantage with freeform cone spacing is that you can set it to fit the slope you are using. Since 100 cones is a long way it's hard to get a perfect slope (even though I agree that we don't know what the perfect slope is yet). If steep you might want to set longer spacing. If flat you might want...
