Best mod for an rtx hanger?

Post by Adam Daniels » Fri Feb 24, 2006 5:09 pm

Hey guys...its vacation...and i am bored. So i popped the axle out of my 106mm rtx hanger and I am not sure what sort of mod i want to do.

At first i was thinking of shaving it down to 90mm and keeping the axle the same length so it could be spaced, but what other good mods could i do? maybe get an 8mm axle? offset?

what is the best way to aquire an 8mm axle? i have everything to make threads and all that, even access to a mechanical mill, cnc mill, mechanical lathe, and cnc lathe which we have not run yet
No vestido para mi

8mm axle stock

Post by Ron Olsen » Thu May 11, 2006 5:55 pm

I'll second the question Adam asked, I've been looking on the web for "axle rod" etc. for the raw material to do just what Adam is describing, take out the stock axle and replace it, but so far, I can't find the axle material I would replace it with. Anyone have a pointer to where one could source some 8mm axle material?

thanks,

Ron

Yes, they do.

Check here http://www.oustbearings.com/
go under the 'order' section and you will see the
Oust SS AXELS™
Introductory Price $8.95 per pair

But: I don't know if they are wider in the middle.
And: You have to rethread them, because they are too long.

My 2 Cents on 8mm axle conversions

ADAM- check my lengthy entry from May 8th 2006 on the other thread tiltle something like "How important are straight axles on the front truck" one thread below this one on the General truck discussion forum. Also, lengthening your kingpin with a new longer(than stock) grade 8 kinpin will allow you to use full height bushings and get more swing to the hanger. Also, put 15 degrees positive wedge on it. You'll be set.- Good luck, Paul
