Jack, we usually finish up around 3-4 pm. The course this weekend will be more of a GS style course so there will not be as much cone popping.

Jeff, wish I could skate walker but I totally tweaked my knee this past weekend skating Asheville skatepark. I am hoping the swelling goes down before Saturday. I was lucky that it is my front knee.

Asheville skatepark is awesome. You just carve and grind until your legs give out. The pool monster just jumped up and bit me. Its all about paying your dues I guess. Anyway...Vlad is going down this weekend.

I would ride Battlefield. I would also ride Walker. Is Walker a daytime weekend spot? If we ride Battlefield, we should set more cones than what we usually set there. I’ll bring my 18 soccer cones / 60 cheercones. I hope Fountainhead opens for us soon. It looked like it was too windy today to ride most other places.

Jeff: Richard W Jones Park?, no this is not in a park, it is in the woods on the side of Pleasant Vally Road.

Wes: I got such few replies (posting at the last minute does that) I was actually thinking about heading up to roll around "the downer" and rescheduling for another time when we can get more people there, though I can change this if more people want to do it and we can come up with a timer. Talk to me people...

I will check this board in the AM before I make a decision and post.

“One hundred cone course” would be cool with a timer. Anyone got a timer that we can all use? If so, I’m there.

Tim is that place called Richard W Jones Park? it looks good. I think there was some talk about practicing at Manassas sometime this weekend. I've got a sick old dog at home so I don't know if I can get out at all. It's always something.

Jack, You're in Gaithersburg, aren't you? Got room for another for that Lansdowne trip? I'm in G-burg too, but my car's on its' last leg. I probably haven't been to Lansdowne in about ten years, but I do love that place.

not Slalom... I'll be hitting Lansdowne 10/25 AM

Post by Jack Quarantillo » Thu Oct 23, 2003 11:17 pm

If anyone wants to do some "Old School" park riding, it doesn't get any more authentic than Lansdowne.

Check this article, you may recognize a few names in there:
Lansdowne Article and Pics

We should get there around 10 am, come and enjoy.

Thanks for the directions. I'll be there as close to 10 am as I can (it'll be a 3.5-4 hour drive). I'm trying to bring a friend or two. I'm really trying to get some slalom going here in Central VA but I've only been practicing for a couple months now. I'm looking forward to coming up there and learning some things from you guys. I'll be the one in the blue Nissan Sentra with a roofrack and a bunch of boards in the back seat.

Gary, open this map of Gaithersburg MD. Where you see a triangle formed by Quince Orchard Rd, I-270, and the railroad tracks, that is the Gaithersburg Park & Ride lot (ignore the exit loop that passes through it - it is not there in actuality). The way I usually go is I-66 East to the Beltway(495) towards Rockville, to 270 North. From there, I take exit 10/Clopper Road. Take a right at the 2nd light, onto Quince Orchard Rd and then just beyond the Motel-6 (formerly the Red Roof Inn) and the train trestle is the Park & Ride lot on your right. Perhaps you could take 29 North at Lynchburg and then hit I-66 East at Gainesville. Or, if you want to aviod the Gainesville traffic, you could take 29 North and then 15 to Haymarket and I-66 East.

G'burg P&R from the south

Post by Jack Quarantillo » Thu Oct 23, 2003 9:13 pm

Dan is correct, I270 N, exit 10 is MD117 (Clopper Rd.) Cloverleaf around new P&R construction (not the P&R where DC Slalom is). Make a right onto MD117, go under I270, 2nd or 3rd Traffic Light is MD124 (Quince Orchard Rd.) Turn right onto MD124 at huge silver office building, go past strip of stores, past Gas Station and Red Roof Inn (all on your right). Turn right at the Traffic light just before I270. You're there!!!

edit: BP, you beat me to it! I'll leave mine, the landmarks should help...

Hey Gary,

It was great meeting you in WV.

Coming from Lynchburg, I think you would take 81 to 66 go east to the Beltway 495. Take 495 north to I 270. Go north on 270 to Exit 10. (Clopper rd). Goto 2nd traffic light turn Right onto Quince Orchard Rd. Go to 2nd traffic light and turn right into the P&R lot. We set up in the upper left corner of the lot.

You can always call me if you get lost. The racing on the 1st will get started around 10am. We usually do a single lane longboard slalom race first then a dual traditinal slalom race around noon.

Hope you can make it out.

Gary,
It's the Park-n-Ride just off I-270. You can see it from the highway.
From the north I take exit 11, but I think it's exit 10 from the south.
Any locals have something more specific?

Two-O-clock sounds good. Why? - Because that is when the pavement is optimal for 100-cone courses.

Yes, I am down w/ the SE poolage, although at the moment, I'm down for the count. 6-day weeks of 12 hours hard labor are taking their toll on my body. Next weekend is good. You can email me di-rect.

Might want to look at the pool usage forms posted by stumpy at the ncdsa.

Any slalome next weekend?

Any word on a Halloween race yet?
