More reasons to look into the Quincy Parking Deck as a legit venue:
I noticed that there is an "IWS" sticker in the bottom section of the Quincy Parking Deck. I was told that back in the 80's Island Water Sports Surf Shop held a skate contest on the bottom level of the Quincy Parking Deck. Paul Miller, a long time Arlington Skateboarder, said they had launch ramps for the contest.

Yea the Quincy Deck is a bit short but in a pinch it could do as a back up spot. It could also be used for practice.
Today about 6:45pm, I drop into the Quincy Deck parking garage on my Jam longboard. The softer Flashbacks did just fine. It seems that the lower level of the garage empty by end of the workday and on weekends. If you head down there, you know you are on the right side of the parking garage because it is marked for “Permit Parking Only”.
Once again we could have set cones even though there was a full on street hockey game going on that lower level. It was also funny to see the top section of the Quincy Parking Deck had a dog obedience class in session.

Dave, if it is only as long as the Surfrider Flat Slalom race...that’s pretty short! What times is the parking deck used? What times is it empty? I might have to check it out if I get really desperate.
I was at the Capitol Expo Center in Chantilly a few days ago and they have some kind of strange open space in the building at one end on the ground level. It was like a concrete floored basement, but open on both sides. No lights, though.

Here is a link to the Map for the Quincy Parking Deck.
The garage is labled as the "I-60 Parking Garage".

Likely a good spot for windy days.

Also after thinking about it, the surface is a solid 2 out of 5. Might even be able to use a slighty harder wheel up front. Me and Steeb were cruising it on 78a Kryps Classics and no names. Those small wheels did ok and Flashbacks or the like would run well there.

GRUNGE PARKING GARAGE RACE SPOT
a.k.a. Quincy Parking Deck
I have discovered what could be one of the nastiest places to hold a slalom race. But hey it is a place that can be skated when it is raining. Unfortunately it is a flat parking garage and the courses would have to be short while the wheels soft (the surface is barely a 2 out of 5). The garage has lights and will have a minimal bust factor because it is an Arlington County parking garage that the top level is used for street hockey and other sports activities.
If you don’t mind skating on a flat rough surface that is not forgiving at all, then we might have a backup spot that we could run some outlaw races. Though you will probably end up with “black lung” from the soot and deaf from the traffic since the parking garage is suspended over a highway leading into Washington DC.
Question is, HOW DESPERATE YOU ARE TO RACE?
Advantages:
Dry when it rains.
Lights for late night sessions
Noise from highway will cover up use.
Ample parking
Johnny on the Spot portable restroom
Easy to find
Might be able to get county blessing for legitimate races
Prime for starting ramps
Disadvantages:
Few parked County Board of Education vehicles
Flat
Short (course would be about the size of the Vintage Day Flatland Race)
Rough Surface but doable
Racers hands when pumping might tag Low ceiling braces
Loud Highway Noise
Soot from years of parking and highway pollution
Used for pickup games of soccer (similar to indoor soccer)
Spot Name:
Quincy Parking Deck
Address:
Washington-Lee High School/ Quincy Parking Deck
1300 N. Quincy Drive
Arlington, VA
(Lowest level on the east side of the garage)
Directions:
5 minutes from Washington DC
Rt. 66 East toward DC
Exit 72 (National Science Foundation)
Go Straight on Fairfax Drive
Past Ihop
Left on Quincy Drive
Left into the Parking Deck just past Washington-Lee High School and over the Rt. 66 Bridge.
Drive down to the lowest level on the east side of the garage.
Bring Soft Wheels!!
