We could have had a (ISSA) “major” or two in the Washington, DC area. I don’t know… Over 30 people show up for the last slalom race. Out of 19 riders 4 were out of state and one was “completely foreign” from the Cold War era. Five out of 19 is 26.3%. The race, as well as the series, was announced well in advance. In terms of number of races in the series times the number of racers who attended divided by time, the DC Slalom Series beats everything from the recent past and present.
Where does it qualify us? Is it good enough for a truly international competition status (over 5% - foreign)?
I wonder… Image

Yeah, I had a good time with the exception of the terrible headwind we all had to battle. There were a couple of times when I hit the wind so hard I thought I would get blown back to the top of the hill!

I was so tired yesterday morning!

I will try to post some pictures up later today. I know I will have at least a good group shot.

Also BRIAN PARSONS check your email. I sent you the info you requested.

Vlad won by staying clean.
I think Noah had slightly faster times but hit a few cones.

I was already partaking of 'energy' drinks so the rest is kinda fuzzy.
I think Ohm was third.

I left just as the dual slalom was starting. If there'd been an opportunity to bet and I'd been a betting man, I would've had my money on the Russian. He's so thin, he seems to slice cleanly through the uphill wind.

I had to leave before the race was over, so I don’t know the results.

Still looking to know when the next race is.

Sorry that you had'nt had much sleep and were conserving energy for the next event(??) and the pictures were nice, and it's nice to see that Kimbals back and blah, blah, blah....
But, what about the results?
The results.

What were the results???

Sorry I had to be so lazy this time - I only had minimal sleep last night, plus had to conserve my energy for a commited event I had today right after the race.

Glad to see Chris and Noah back.

And a Big Welcome Back to Curt!

Brian, when is the next outlaw race? I see one listed this upcoming Saturday. If there’s no race, maybe we can go bomb the OCC hill legally (I believe the park opens that day).

Bozi, let me know when you plan to get more shirts made.

'Til next time (hopefully with more conciousness & verver).

Hey Anthony (F.):
Your Mom needs to get some kind of award for driving you all the way up, then hanging out the whole time.

Hopefully, when the weather gets better, she can bring a chair and watch the races.

We had a great time, even tho we didn't make it in time to race the "longboard" race and the Second course was a little too much to jump in to at the last minute.

I did get some great photos, though. I'll try to post them tonight.

i had so much fun today. i just woke up cuz i passed out for like 2 hours on a couch sitting up with my feet on my longboard. that course was so hard and the wind just killed me. but i had fun non the less. now i have to go out and train for slalom now too...thanks to wese for helping me out setting my board up better and thanks to bozi for having my wheels cuz those things are just monsters.

Guys, I wish I could Pooped a bunch of Stims out this morning, but Im dry.

I have a few left I owe Vlad for Russia. I'll call Tracker mon & see how many of what they have left for real. I think the yellows are history. The Kiro 60a Barrel bushings are out now, judging from the 60a insert bushings protos, the barrel will hit the spot nicely.

I am fiarly sure I can still get greens & blues (stims), Ill post when I find out what I have comig & whats left.

See ya, Jeff

With danny c not coming ill be able to secure at least one spot higher than last time in longboard slalom heh heh heh....and with my gumballs on my cosmic its even better....Will it be duel longboard this time too?

Saturday: Sunny, with a high around 49. North wind between 5 and 15 mph. Looks like it could get quite windy at the P&R. As always, we are in need of a hill that’s not facing North.

could you bring for me...

It's on!! Park and Ride tomorrow.

For those that need directions it is exit 10 off I270 in Gaithersburg. Take right at 2nd traffic light onto Quince Orchard then take 2nd right into the P&R lot.

Longboard practice will start at 10am. Let me know if you want to do single or double lane longboard tomorrow. The longboard duals were fun last time. But makes for a longer day.

Noah, fear the young one from Va beach. He probably should have won the last race.

Bozi, please bring some risers and wedges.

LBK, would you please bring my "This Is Not Skateboarding" video? Thanks.

DC - I realized this morning that it's been exactly 2 yrs since I've been riding with you guys. Thanks for all the good times past, present, and future.

Anthony Flis wrote:hey can someone spot me some knee pads on saturday?
Anthony, I’ll bring an extra set for you. Bring the one that you still have though. It will help alot if that one is for the right leg, because the extra right I have is fairly gone by. Otherwise, you might have to duct tape it to your leg (so wear long pants).

hey can someone spot me some knee pads on saturday? Im missing one in the back of dannys car and he happens to be in florid for the week so i kinda cant get it. I didnt notice it until tonight that i need it for saturday and he left two days ago. If anyone can thatd be just great. Thanks.

Weather.com's hourly thing...

http://www.weather.com/outlook/travel/h ... &begDay=73

Pretty windy in the AM, but tapering nicely in the afternoon...

I'm out for most of the day, due to family/church obligations. :(

If things end up at the P&R, I'll try to swing by towards the end. If things go down at Fountainhead, we'll be out altogether.

Bunches of Old Schoolers heading for Lansdowne Sunday if anyone is interested.

Sure, AnthonyF, bring them out.

Hmmm,
Saturday: All that’s predicted so far is mostly sunny, with a high around 51. Sounds good for racing at the P&R, except that on Friday, gusts as high as 33 mph are predicted - If it carries over to Saturday, P&R might not be too fun.

im gonna bring jay out to the next race to give him a go at slalom. I dont think anyone else of my crew will be there cuz danny and gareth are in florida with band and i havent talked to jimmy in like a week so im not sure about him but i posted on our website to let him know when he does go online. but jay will need a few pointers and stuff probably but he'll charge hard i know that...

Post poning the race makes me really happy cuz otherwise i would have missed out if it were this weekend cuz i have band festival and our school is hosting it too. Ive even been setting some slalom on my street since its been so nice and since theres a house no one lives in yet cuz it was just sold i could use all the pavement in front of that house and the one next to it.

Kolin,

No problem, I am sure you will receive alot of coaching if you make it out. Every race recently we have had several beginners ride the courses, some race some do not.

If you can ride a skateboard you can race slalom. The hill at the P&R is mellow and the courses are set beginner friendly. We always have a longboard race 1st which is wide open. The traditional slalom can get a bit more technical.

Dont worry, you will have a blast.

Would i have to compete in order to ride the course. Im asking cuz ive never ridin a slolom course before and i wanna give it a shot.

Thanks Brian for the heads up.

I was going to make it tomorrow but next weekend will work fine for me since I will be on my 5 day break. So count on us guys making it next weekend. I think Evan will be coming too. Aaron gave Evan his old white Turner and set it up for him. Aaron's Birthday is on Monday so he will be 15 years old!

I think I will go to the movies tomorrow. I want to see the Passion. Since that movies has been out I have had to go to the movie theater on the Fire Truck several times because people are flaking out. Hysteria!

Take care guys,

Brian,

Thanks for calling the race early. Waiting til tonight or tomorrow morning is way too late for me.

And, no, despite Stepanek's moanings and groanings, you did not screw up by delaying last week's race. I made the suggestion that two weeks between races was just too short for some of us to travel and I think most everyone at the last race agreed.

Trust me, my dear boy, no one holds you personally responsible for the weather.

We blame that on LBK!

Thanks Anthony and Jack,

Yea, the race tomorrow is postponed until next weekend. March 13th.

OK I screwed up by not having a race last Saturday. Sorry guys.

If you believe this forecast:

the chances of racing on Saturday in DC are somewhere between slim and none, and Slim just left town....

I think you'll be fine for a while on your Randals. Just reverse the hangar and put in some hard bushings. Downhill trucks would really be something to look into if you get into downill racing.

At Van Dorn I was riding R-IIs and got no death wobble.

Yea, weather is looking bad for this weekend. I will post a final decision tomorrow morning around 9am.

For those that did not ride Oakwood Rd last weekend. It was a blast. At those speeds slalom is a completely different thing. I am ready to ride it again. This hill is an equalizer.

Question for Bozi or Anthony. Can a Mad Bomber be made into a drop through? And will Randall 180s work for the speeds the standup guys go?

Check back in the morning for the latest on the race.
