Wes if we built them in 2 or 3 piece systems they wouldn't have to take up much room for storage.

Anyhow, I was offering to help with them if you guys wanted them and didn't want them out of steel.

I don’t know if you had a chance to read my post before your reply, Claude, but the only thing we are missing is a place to store the ramps. I do trust that you can build them and am glad to help out if you want.

So the only thing were missing is wether or not you'se would like to have them.

Building them is no problem and I could do them alone in a day but a couple of extra hands are always welcome.

Building the ramps is not that big of a deal. Brian and I can design and build them to be broken down into at least as small as 3 parts, a 3’x5’ block and two 3’x4’ blocks. But we would need someone to store and transport them. Dan said his truck and trailer are available, but he didn’t mention anything about storing them. I could probably store them at my house and would help load/unload them, but I live about 50 minutes West of the Beltway/I-66 interchange, not including any heavy traffic (not much of a factor on weekends), so that would be too much extra driving for him just for us to have start ramps. Can anyone else store them?

Thanks, but as far as I know, there is no interest. I think this topic was first discussed in December, but no one got serious then or later. KMG has the CAD design, and offers were flying here and there, but I'm relactant to organize the building process by myself. It actually costs money and takes time and skill to build. Could be done in a couple of days, really, but no one is gonna do it by himself.

Please speak up if anyone thinks otherwize.

The Mississippi ramps were great. The competition would not have been the same without them.

Has there been any further development/descision about the ramps.

I'm still not sure about attending but if there is interest in building them I'll be there one day earlier to build 'em if I am able to make it.

Ramps in DC! I'm an advocate of push starts but having ramps to mix it up with will be nice and give us east coasters some practice for FCR events, even if the ramps aren't the same spec as FCR ramps!

Redneck, huh? My neck WAS red after that last GB practice, was I the only one? I doubt it. My truck is available for ramp hauling anytime, and I have a 5x8 trailer if that would work better. Also, I drink very cheap beer (Busch Light, so you know ahead of time).

Sure wish I could confirm my attendance because I'm sure I could build two wooden ones in a day no problem.

Good Luck with it if I'm going I'll be there a couple of days early as I am also planning on helping out with Henry J's Slalom Clinics the weekend before.

Vlad, the steel tubing design will disassemble into about 8 parts nits and bolts not included. I looks like a rectangle cube. The ramp itself won't have transition. It will be a banked portion. Picture a rectangular box about18 to 24 inches high and 24 inches wide and 4 to 5 ft long. The banked portion will fit on the front of the box and there will be poles sticking upward to pull yourself forward with. Simple design but will take Geezes engineering mind to make happen. He said it should cost less than $200 in materials. I think we can give up our time to help with the dirty work while he fabricates it.

Kevin had a CAD design when this issue was discussed in December. I remember seeing a sketch of an S-shaped ramp. If we decide to go with the same type of ramp that was used in the last year’s Georgian race, it could fit in two cars. The (little) problem with this design is that the ramp’s too light and narrow. The width limits the push, and the weight limits the power- the ramp does a “wheelie” on you. But it’s still a good ramp.

PS. I wonder if there is a way to make a ramp with steel tubing that can be disassembled to fit in a car or two…

Brian, i have spoke with GeezerX about this. He says he can fabricate portable ramps out of 1 inch steel tubing. I think we should be able to design a simple model for him to go from. The missing link is a truck to haul it. Dan is the only redneck with a truck. Maybe we can get together one night with everybody and sketch it out. Beer anyone?

I am volunteering to help contribute to building start ramps for use at the 3rd Gathering.

I have a place to build them I just don't have a way to move them around.

Any ideas.
