What you’re about to see is a trailer for an upcoming film entitled Livin’ Free.
Livin’ Free is a documentary film about four guys, hired to shoot a reality show, who end up shooting some of the most beautiful longboard skateboard footage ever captured. Six cities in six weeks with nothing but each other, their skateboards and a van load of some of the best video equipment on the market. Their travels start in Boston, and take them through Cleveland, Chicago, Nashville, Dallas, and Las Vegas. Somewhere along the way the film crew, which consisted of camera operator Marc McCrudden, audio mixer and specialty cam rigger, Thom Mayer, camera assist, Jason Clayton, and PA Bryan Heffron, realize they are accumulating more and more unique and gorgeous longboard footage. Shooting each other bombing hills in all these cities started out as an escape from the daily limitations of the reality show they were hired to shoot and turned into a charge that has led this unlikely group of characters down a path where skateboarding is now more important in their lives than ever before.
Livin’ Free embodies the spirit of all skateboarding while exemplifying the distinctive soul of longboarding in particular. Longboarding is a sensation that has to be experienced to be understood. The person who sees a longboarder roll by them often thinks, “Hey, I can do that,” remembering back to the days when they used to skateboard. Time and time again it is longboard skateboarding that brings people back to experience what it feels like to roll down the street on a board with four wheels. Every crash or wipeout is carried with honor, the skin left in the pavement as an offering to the gods of youth. You feel alive again and want more. This is what it feels like to really be alive, to be Livin’ Free.
Look for the movie in the near future and in the meantime enjoy this teaser.
