Gilmour...Duel Sport World Champion?

Post by Terry Kirby » Sun Feb 15, 2004 11:15 pm

Our very own John Gilmour, top slalom competitor and all around nice guy is competing today in the World Teleboard Championship. The contest is held at Wachuset MTN here in the great north east. John is already the World Longboard Slalom Champion and if he wins today it will make him a duel sport World Champion.
Teleboarding is a fast growing offshoot sport combining Alpine snowboard racing and Tele skiing.
During a phone conversation John told me he enjoys the esoteric qualities of Teleboarding as well as explaining to curious onlookers what the hell he is riding.
Good luck today John and keep us posted.

Any pictures of Gilmour teleboarding? I have no idea what it is? A mix between snowboarding and skiing you say? Is that like skiing on one leg? :-)

I saw my first teleboard on hill a few weeks ago, didn't know what the hell it was....my first thought was this sport is for Gilmour (seriously).

I just spoke to JG. He got 4th in the race. He was freeriding afterwards and hit a tree going about 40mph. He is at Worcester Hospital with a broken right leg and dislocated shoulder. More later.

Very sorry to hear.

Thats horrible news. I for one know how hard it is to recover from a serious injury and how getting hurt as an adult is a big concern financally.
TK do you know if it was a femur or tibia break?

John all my best to you and I hope for your speedy recovery.

Damn...
Sorry to hear about John's injury. Trees don't move, and when you hit one, it ain't funny like "George of the Jungle". I broke my right femur in 1991, going only about 5-10 miles per hour. Hearing that John was doing four times that speed, it's a wonder he wasn't hurt WORSE.

John, best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.

John, it was supposed to be DUAL sport champion, not DUEL sport!

Dueling with trees is almost always a losing proposition -- I know.

I hope they are making you feel comfortable in the hospital with the right meds and that you have a speedy recovery.

Tele boarding is gay. I spoke to John the night before the race and was thinking that he shouldnt do it for one because an injury would kill the rest of the snowboard season for him and two..tele boarding is a gay sport, nut eatin crap. Heel up

Gilmour just called me and he needs you to call him with your credit card number to pay for the hospital bills as he has no health insurance. He also asked if you could have a Rack of Lamb dinner delivered to room 121 with some silk pillow cases and bed sheets and 2 bottles of Fiji water.

Can you do that? I mean take a restraining order out, to keep someone away from some one else?? My wife, (I got her proxy) would like to like to place an order for a restraining order, in order to keep Gilmour from looking over her shoulder at the time keeping table (pretending to be looking over the times) At one point, I looked at Gilmours mirrored glasses and got a nice reflection of cleavage (not that there's anything wrong w/ that)

Sad to hear this news, but it's reassuring to see that you are already making the best of the situation. You better heal fast! The slalom season is only a few months away and we're counting on you. What would the next Paris video by Mollica be like without you?

Damnn dude?!?!

Teleboarding??? What the f@*k is that?

Our thoughts and prayers and all the good Juju we can muster are with you.
As I'm sure you will, come back stronger, wiser (teleboarding??? what the f@*k is that) and with more sympathy hook-ups than you can count.

By the way, does a teleboard come with a free slap to the back of the head and a quick punch to the balls??
Just curious.
I think they should.

Q: What do Sonny Bono, Michael Kennedy and John Gilmour have in common?
A: They all three have probably had Cher!

******************

I guess Gilmour adds new meaning to the question, "Got Wood?"

******************

I wonder if we'll see that damned Teleboard on eBay anytime soon?

******************

Ran into a tree and broke your leg? I guess that's what they mean by "a limb for a limb?"

******************

So, do you think that with his leg messed up Gilmour will still be able to wear those pants?

******************

Ok, everyone remember what we've learned: YOU CANNOT CRIDDLE A TREE! You can try, but you will fail.

******************

So, is it too soon to ask if there's still going to be a July 4th race in Boston?

******************

You know, John, this is what you get for . . . "branching out" into other sports.

******************

When the paramedics got to the scene, did they perform (wait for it)
*
*
*
*
Tree-age?

******************

I was talking to Gilmour's doctor yesterday, Dr. Vinnie Goombaugh, and I says to the doc, "hey, doc, do you think he'll still be able to skateboard?"

"What, are you kiddin' me?" the doc says, "he'll be disappointing his sponsors in no time!"

******************

Hey, Gilmour! Be careful: a tree grows in Brooklyn!

******************

Gilmour got into an argument with a tree. Last we heard the tree ran . . . rings around him.

******************

And Finally . . .

Gilmour has given new meaning to the phrase "face plant."

******************

I keed. You know I keed. I keed because I love. Trust me, had this been an actual emergency and you were in serious danger, I would have told some really awful jokes!

Get Well Eventually.

Please people, hostility towards a piece of equipment is narrowminded and will not bring Gilmours knees back.

John would like to see harmony within all board riders and wishes no ill will on the teleboard. HE was raving about it the first day he tried it.

IF he had crahed on a Roe Unlimited would you hate that too?

Yes, yes I would. I'd hate anything that is keeping our (porn) star down.

FYI, I read this thread to John yesterday while doing a google search for brilliant ortho surgeons that work pro bono. He enjoyed it. This was of course prior to Wesley's distasteful post. I don't have the heart to read that to John while he is having to make in a bed pan.

If a crashed on a Roe Unlimited, or crashed at all in fact, I would just think I was an idiot. Idiot because I didn't take the right precausions or didn't make the right choices that led me to the crash. But then again if I was in the hospital with a broken leg I wouldn't like to hear "You idiot why did you go so fast into that turn!". It's enough with myself thinking that. I would love, though, to here all the stories about that stupid hill, why someone had left that tree in a place where it obviously shouldn't be and that it was perfectly clear it was something wrong with the board you where running.

He knows that teleboarding is gay, just like roller blading. His reason..quite simple.. rode the thing for a few days, then enter a world championship race and win. 4th place ? The guy who won has probably been doing it for years. Telegay sucks

I don't know how difficult teleboarding is. But to compare being good at surfing and then win fourth in a windsurfing world championships 4 days later is a little extreme.

I was pretty good at surfing and could hold my own at some of Maui's best winter breaks, having lived there(the windsurf capitol of the world) 4yrs already when I started to windsurf in 1983. I can guarantee you that no matter how good an athlete that Nobody in this world could even Enter a world championship of windsurfing, even at an amateur level, in just 4 days. It would take a good surfer 4 days just to learn how to water-start somewhat well.

Gilmour's #'s posted above. Somebody tell him how wrong he is!

Here's something else to munch on while he's at the best hospital on the best of all possible coasts but without Inet.

"Teleboarding is not as intense as alpine snowboarding. But you have 70% of the force <i>in any snow conditions</i>".
