Speaking of free speech,
The Democratic Caucus in the Senate sent a letter yesterday to Disney/ABC declaring their displeasure with ABC's upcoming mini series, THE PATH TO 9/11. The Democrats say without obfuscation that ABC has an obligation to the public and that it's broadcast license would be suspect if it airs the show.
That, by the way, is the government judging the value of someone's speech (through a broadcast) and threatening legal action if the broadcast is aired.
Is the drama accurate? Is is completely fictitious? Is it Right wing propoganda or maybe the Left's attempt to alter history to its liking?
Is the theme and attitude of those who engage in free speech now subject to some sort of review as to whether or not their motives meet a prescribed governmental standard?
And yet, the Left LOVES to propogate the notion that the GOP, President Bush and Vice President Cheney somehow stifle free speech. When is the last time you saw a Republican effort to shut down one of its critics through force of law? Was Michael Moore ever threatened with legal action by the Right for his stuff?
Yes, free speech and freedom of the press are precious rights that should be zealously guarded. Just make sure who is assaulting your rights.
