Many know me as a Vert/Pool or All around Skateboarder, but I actually got my start and first real sponsorship as a Slalom racer after winning the Jr. Men’s Slalom at the Hang Ten World Championships in 1975- I’m that Bold! (Notice how I added the B!) Anyway, the point of my post is exactly what you talked about- I LOVE a skateboard competition that CLEARLY shows who the Winner is! (Most likely the guy or gal who crossed the finish line first!! (Assuming his or her cone count was low)
I’m going to be 65 soon and am still in Racing shape (thanks to all the other stuff I do) and still have ALL my gear- I think about coming back to Race All the time! But for me on a fixed income, it’s tough to maybe spend $1500.-$2500. With flights room and board, to show up to a race where I might win $300…or another set of wheels or trucks…what Professional Slalom Racing needs are Big Sponsors to fund it so the Prize money is worth the effort, and also a Media channel that makes it look SEXY!!! (Kinda like what Netflix did to F1 or Horse Racing- The way they film it and tell the story and develop the character/racers is UNREAL!! Slalom needs this and DESERVES it!! When I turn 65 this year, it will mean I’ve been a Professional Slalom Racer for 50 years! And I still feel the Love and passion for it since day one- because it is a mixture of Physical, Mental, Technical, Science, Passion, Camaraderie, Vision, Family, Team, Precision and so much more!! It really deserves to be Presented so that Spectators can see how Exciting it really is…(The photo is of me Racing Hester at the Catalina Classic at 16 years young!)

I came across this post on FB July 8, 2025 and I decided to keep it until I build up a racer profile for David. /Jani
