I saw the results that Steve Collins posted here but he said that they had to run the GS final for the open class on Sunday morning. Did Wes E keep his 3rd place standing on Sunday?

I am very impressed with what Wes E has done with his slalom. When I saw the results that Steve posted Wes E's placing struck me the most. Way to go Wes!

I talked to Steve on the phone and he told me that the GS was pretty fast and gnarly. Steve was one of the "few" that took a spill on the GS course. Wes was this one of the gnarliest GS's you've run? And why do you think you placed so well in this GS?

It turns out that they never ran the B finals Sunday morning. In the interest of saving time they went with the best times from Saturday. Wes got his well deserved podium from some smoking runs. He really looked good.

Thanks for the comments, Glenn, Steve, Rick and Dave.

LaCosta 2004 GS was indeed one of the gnar-est GSes I’ve run, due to the speed that the hill generated. The hill was so fast, that in the TS, I switched to a board with a slightly longer wheelbase right before a crucial heat, just to feel safer, even though I hadn’t had any practice with it. Brian Parsons took a bad spill in practice on the GS, and I don’t usually see him fall all that much. I took a spill practicing on the TS course, and almost took another one while qualifying on it. So I would say it’s the hill itself that made the GS course gnarly. It was fun though. If anyone hasn’t noticed, I went with a serious helmet for this hill. Come prepared and the gnar becomes part of the fun.

Actually, there was a water pouch. Given the heat and lack of humidity it looked like a very good idea.
