Italian Slalom History in Pictures.

Post by Vlad Popov » Wed Oct 01, 2003 8:39 pm

10 years ago.....Photos from the JPG, 1993.

Image

The picture is from the Slalom! No 19, August 1993.

Image

It’s one of the few beefed up Slalom! editions, almost 30 pages long, with a HUGE Gilmour’s (who took 2nd in downhill!) article and a special write up by Monique Blanchard on the JPG (Jeux Pyreneens da I’Aventure) Olympic sponsored event in France that gathered people from all over the world in 16 different adventurous disciplines and in which skateboarding was represented by slalom and downhill.

The French and the Spanish Olympic Comities organized the event. 10 days of fun! Check it out when #19 hits the front page of this forum!

Vert and Freestyle.

Ciammarco Luca was a vivid freestyler back in a day. He’s still good in some basic freestyle stuff.

Andrea Ambroso was one of the top Italian slalomers. In 1990 he got Silver at the Slalom World Championship in Turin, Italy, placing behind Giammarco Luca but beating many other fast skaters- Ridoli, Gatti, Sidler and others.

Here in practice.

Here’s an amazing thing. During "the dark slalom years", this Italian newspaper said the following: "Giammarco will also try to get to the top in the USA among the top Pros." Nothing more then a yellow-press cliche, I'm sure.

LA STAMPA is one of the best selling Italian newspapers in Italy and abroad. Check out the title.

Antonella Ferrero

Post by Vlad Popov » Wed Oct 22, 2003 9:52 pm

For years her practice times were similar to Luca’s. She also came very close to Luca’s time in several races.

Women Division European Slalom Pro Champion Antonella Ferrero. Italy 1988.

Thank you for the words and pictures Vlad. I always enjoy the international aspect and I appreciate your enthusiasm in this direction. I'm still hungry for more and I'm sure others are too. Post away...

Incredible, thanks very much. I enjoyed seeing those photos. I have a few of those old Slalom! mags. I have to go look for that one.
Awesome!

Ha, ha. The very first picture in this topic you see me filming on the finish line between the two courses at the Pyrenées competition. It resulted in a VHS movie later on.

Corky,
we read about the movie in a couple of Slalom! mags. Do you care to make a DVD out of it and sell it?

Greetings snow enthusiasts!

Post by John Dillon » Fri May 27, 2005 10:29 pm

Since Vlad posted about the upcoming Winter Olympics, I should post that I may be coming over on a snowboarding trip right after the Olympics and it's be great to rendezvous w/some fellow snowboarders while I am there.....also, Vlad, let me know if you are interested in going too as I will be outnumbered by ski instructors and I'll need some snowboard friends and translators...plus, you drink gut bier! Hey Luca, I'll check and see if Granlund can make it as well...though, I won't hold it against him since he's a skier!
