Different Sites For Spreading The Slalom Word

Post by Wesley Tucker » Sat Jan 22, 2005 9:51 pm

I've done a little sleuthing today and found the following:

http://www.SkateSC.com (South Carolina skate community)
http://www.SkateNC.com (North Carolina)
http://www.SkateTN.com (Tennessee)

And of course we already know about Georgiaskater.com and SkateMS.com (Mississippi) Each of these use PhpBB and have identical formats to SS.com (or whatever we call this site now. I'm sticking with the oldie but a goodie.)

I couldn't find anything for Alabama. If there is one, they are using some weird kind of URL that I couldn't think of for a search. Same goes for Virginia. I also know there is one for Florida, but can't think of the name (SkateFL.com doesn't work.)

Although I'm sure y'all realize these are all kickflipper sights, I'm going to make it a point that anytime we schedule a session or a race 'round here to post a notice on these other sites. As a wise man once said, "you can't spread the word if you don't spread the word." Or, words to that affect.

If promoters and enthusiasts for slalom did the same, then maybe we can stop spending so much time talking among ourselves and branch out a little into the "mainstream" of skating. There's an excellent chance we can bring in some kids and old schoolers who would love to try something different than standing around in a parking lot doing ollies and gonad smashing on stair rails. That has got to get old after a while.

WT,
Although it is not regional, you should cross-post to Silverfish Longboarding's forum. They have a Slalom section, and an Events/Sessions section. You might find some recruits there.

oh yeah... the URL:

Wesley,
I actually have emailed with the dude at Skate NC and he is very happy to promote other types of skating. The next Statesville jam will probably draw some guys from Charlotte.

Thanks for the efforts.

Floridaskater.com is not a kickflipper site, it is mostly old school surf-skaters. Most of the guys there don't care much for slalom, but there is starting to be some interest in downhill (in South Florida no less!) so who knows what can happen?

Good idea to mention races on there though...you will occasionally see mention made of podium spots by Mandarino or Hollien so at least there is some interest.
