DownHill Billies March 26 Slalom/Downhill Skate Jam II!

Post by Marion Karr » Mon Feb 21, 2005 11:27 pm

You asked for it...You got it!
Well, you have been looking for training options, well, have I got an opportunity for you. The DownHill Billies are hosting their next Skate Jam in Statesville/Troutman, North Carolina (30 miles north of Charlotte) on Saturday, March 26th (Easter Weekend), starting at 12 noon. Statesville, NC is at the intersection of I-40 and I-77. The format is a laid back jam session that will include hybrid, tight, or what-ever-we-want-to-set-up slalom, downhill bombing/carving, and just plain chilling with a bunch of DownHill Billies and their skate quivers! The first jam was attended by over 30 riders, many of whom, tried slalom for the first time. The Spot is a new housing development with pristine new pavement and multiple grades to from which to choose!

This will be a casual, chilled out format where you will be able to get as many slalom runs and your legs will allow you to take. For you hill bombers and carvers, it is an ideal jam to come to because there is SHUTTLE SERVICE with the F150 Chairlift to the top! Ride down the hill, jump on the back of the truck, and ride with the crew to the top and do it all over again! It Rocks!

Anyone coming from out of town drop me an email. I can host several of you at my house on Saturday night..just bring a sleeping bag in case we have to pile you up!

Drop me an email if you are interested in learning more about the DownHill Billies and the Jam!

Hope to see you there!

We are planning to attend the jam.
Will you have any of those DHB shirts
ready by then?

Also, what can we do to help? I have
a Mazda "chair-lift" if needed.

Dudes and Dudettes
Here are the directions from those coming into for the jam from out of town.
On I-77 Take Exit 45 (this is only 7 miles south of I-40)

FROM I-77 SOUTH (Coming from West Bygod Virginia):
Exit 45 Turn right at top of ramp onto Amity Hill Road
Take a left onto Murdock Road (approx. 1/2 mile)
Follow Murdock Road until is crosses US 21 in Troutman
Road turns into Old Mountain Road
Turn right into Barium Valley Development (first new development on right)
This is The SPOT
If you go to South Iredell High School on left you have gone too far..turn around Sucka!

FROM I-77 NORTH (Coming From South Carolina- Gamecock country)
Exit 45 Turn left at top of ramp onto Amity Hill Road (cross I-77)
Take a left onto Murdock Road (approx. 1/2 mile)
Follow Murdock Road until is crosses US 21 in Troutman
Road turns into Old Mountain Road
Turn right into Barium Valley Development (first new development on right)
This is The SPOT
If you go to South Iredell High School on left you have gone too far..turn around Sucka!

PARKING: When you come into the development the first road on the left dead ends into a cul de sac, please park as far down that street as possible. We need to keep as many cars out of the skate area as possible. This development is being marketed and we need to be as low profile as 40 skaters and friends can be..
The F-150 Chairlift is in the shop but other shuttle vehicles will be available and we will shuttle riders and gear down to the bottom of the hill or you can ride your boards down.

Here is a map for your viewing pleasure:

Tee shirts will be for sell at the jam so bring cash if you want one. We will have the prices figured out by tomorrow. For those of you wanting to be Charter Members special shirts will be available with a designation on the sleeve and will cost an additional $5. All proceeds from shirt sales minus the cost of the shirts and screen printing will go to fund the website...www.downhillbillies.org
Charter Members additional money is to help offset the start up costs.

Also, anyone wanting to pitch in and bring bottled water, a cooler, and other drinks would be appreciated. This development is currently being patrolled by the local police department so alcoholic beverages need to be kept hidden.
We are still working on after jam plans to give you the opportunity to partake in the fermented drink of your choice.
By the way, Troutman is a small town but they do have a drug dog.

Please drop me an e-mail if you need further information. My mobile number is
Seven Zero Four Six Five Seven Nine Five Three One

Look forward to seeing you at the jam. Bring your slalom boards, your carving boards, your downhill boards, or just bring yourself! It is going to be a blast.
