it hurts me to write this but sadly I wont be able to make it to Texas. The flights are just a little too pricey and it falls at a hard time with school. I was trying all that I could to make it happen but at this point I dont think I can come. I am sorry Eddy and the rest of my pals that I wont get to come hangout and race with you all. What a bummer, have a blast everyone!.

Got my registration paid, got my plane ticket, got my room at the HoJo, got my car.

If anyone is looking, I got a full-size car from Alamo for $17 a day for Friday through Monday. As usual, the total was $51 for the car and TWENTY FIVE ($25) in taxes and fees. That's 50%.

Geesh.

The Alamo deal was through Priceline.

Friday night?

Post by Wesley Tucker » Wed Feb 22, 2006 12:30 am

Eddy,

What's shakin' Friday night? I know a few people will already be at the HoJo by then. I get in at 1:30 and should have the car by 2. My only plan is to go to Barton Creek Mall to the Apple Store. After that, nothin'.

Have you, Marcos and the rest of the Outlaws talked about doing anything on the town?

Let us know. If I'm in Texas, I don't want to spend Friday night in a motel room!

Marcos Texas Outlaws

Hello:

If you are getting this e-mail then you are a racer that is coming to the Cold Fusion Sizzler in Austin Texas on the 25th and 26th of February. You will find information that is useful for both days.

First we would like to thank you for coming the Texas to join us for this’d race it looks like it is going to be a blast.

Saturday’s event is in the City if San Marcos here is directions from the Airport. The road that we are using is new and does not show up on the map web sites. So I am writing the directions here for you.

1.
Start going toward the AIRPORT EXIT on PRESIDENTIAL BLVD - go 0.5 mi

2.
PRESIDENTIAL BLVD becomes CARDINAL LOOP - go < 0.1 mi

3.
Turn on TX-71 E - go 0.2 mi

4.
Take ramp onto BASTROP HWY toward TX-71 WEST - go 1.2 mi

5.
BASTROP HWY becomes BEN WHITE BLVD E - go 4.6 mi

6.
Turn on I-35 S - go 1.2 mi

7.
Take ramp onto I-35 SOUTH - go 28.1 mi

8.
Take exit #201 onto I-35 S toward MC CARTY LANE - go 0.4 mi

9.
Turn on MCCARTY LN - go 2.7 mi

10. Turn right on the Hunter

11. Turn Left on Reimer. Reimer will turn into Willow creek Circle

12. Turn Left on Rolling Oaks Drive

13. Turn Left onto Mountain Drive (if you hit Mountain View drive you have gone too far turn around) and fallow it to the race site. Someone will be there to meet you.

If you are coming from the hotel take the 35 south and then fallow the same directions.

The hill is a constant slope all the way down. The street is pretty deserted. Just us and the Chief of Police’s there.

As stated on the contest Calendar this will be a single lane unlimited push start GS style course. The race will run jam style which means that all racers will get at least two runs, and then as many runs as they can get before the sun sets. Fastest time gets the Texas Cup. All Racers need to check in. Check in starts at 9:30:AM, if you have not paid you entry fee yet please pay it then it is 45$ per racer. Practice starts at 10: AM till 11:30 Racers meeting at 11:30 racing at noon. After the race we will have a party at the Texas Outlaw Austin Headquarters here is the direction from Sam Marco

Sunday will be dual lane Hybrid slalom with start ramps and timer with false start detection. Here are directions from the Hotel.

Practice will start at 8:30Am until 9:30am, racers meeting at 9:45 and qualifying 10: am. We will run A B C and D classes starting right after qualifying.

If you are coming in on Friday and you are looking for something to do the outlaws are meeting at the Jackalope at 6:30 for a drink or two. Please come a join us. Also poison 13 is playing at EMOS http://www.emosaustin.com/ and if that is not enough here are some suggestions fro Bosco the head of the Austin Chapter of the Outlaws.

If you're looking for stuff to do in Austin outside of race time, here's a list of recommends from me. I've lived in Austin since 1989 and these are things that I have encountered in my travels around town:

Restaurants. There are a lot. I would recommend the following for a very unique Austin Experience:

Threadgill's, Magnolia Cafe, Kerbey Lane, The Omeletree, Mongolian BBQ, Loco Maria's Taco Express, Tamale House, Castle Hill, Carmelo's, Maudie's Tex Mex Cafe, Suzi's China Kitchen, Saigon, The Salt Lick, Rudy's, Sam's BBQ, El Azteca. Amy's Ice Cream, Waterloo Ice House, Thundercloud Subs,

Coffee Houses: Ruta Maya, Flipnotics, Bouldin Creek Coffee, Little City, Spiderhouse( It's good people watching place with beer, wine and food as well), Texpresso

Skate Shops/Parks: Tekgnar, Skatepark Of Austin (Skate the 69 Bowl, you'll be sorry if you miss it.) Mabel Davis Park: Public Concrete and Free. Great bowl. There is a Fast Forward in the mall by my house if you have an emergency skate need.

Nightlife: There are a million bars in Austin. 90% of them have live bands at least 4 nights a week. I could make a list but it would take forever. Go to www.austinchronicle.com for a good overview of what's available in Austin. It's updated every Thursday. On Friday night there is a Poison 13 reunion at Emo's that is a benefit for a local business that was destroyed by fire. Poison 13 is one of Austin greatest punk bands ever. They did one previous reunion in like 1995 for the reissue of their complete recorded works on Sub Pop records. Other places to hang would include: The Longbranch, The Jackalope, Stubbs, Jovita's, The Broken Spoke. In general go to the Warehouse District on 4th St for hipster, beautiful people, trendy flavor and the Red River district on Red River for punk/alt/indy flavor. There is of course 6th St. It'll be busy packed with people and lots of bars and college kids hanging out.

Well I think that all I have for you. If you have any questions or need anything please don’t hesitate to contact us.

A few pics from Texas

Post by Wesley Tucker » Tue Feb 28, 2006 3:43 am

I got a few from Saturday and Sunday. First off, here's the scene of the accident. Boscoe has the friends only a mother could love:

Image
Is this cold blooded or what?

Me and CFAV (yes, ME) were actually leading that crummy bastard Ricky Byrd after the first two runs. I remember I had a 26.9 (my fast time all day) and Byrd Dog was at 27.0. He changed wheels and dropped straight down one and a half seconds on his next run to 25.5.

Image

Fadell got a couple of me:

Image

Image
"Hey, what's with this ole' sh*t?"

The course on Sunday was perfect: fast, just a little technical at the bottom and wide open enough at the top so you could find a really good rhythm for speed:

Image

Also, Boscoe ("Da' MAN!") built perfect ramps. They were identical and provided perfect starts in both lanes all day.

Image

The Texas Outlaws are awesome and put on a terrific show. Like I told Cliff Jennings this morning "it's not just the race that's remembered, it's the whole weekend!" Well, this whole weekend was memorable. I'll be back.

Oh, in case anyone missed the news, Trish Erikson started slaloming last year. The Fusion Sizzler was her first race. She qualified straight into the "B" bracket. That's just too cool!

SOOO FUN!

Post by trish erickson » Tue Feb 28, 2006 4:16 am

WHEW!, I don't really know were to start. I can't even begin to express how much fun I had. Those Texas boys can put on a great race. Thank you for such great hospitality and 2 days of great racing. And a big thank you to all the racers for all the great advice and support. I am overwhelmed by all the friendly advise. I can't wait to set up my FATBOY the right way! Wedge, wedge, wedge. wheels, wheels wheels. I'm there. I learned a lot this weekend. How not to fall! Bosco, I wish you a quick recovery. I learned that you are all not just slalom people but a great group of wild friends. I love you all! There are so many people that I want to thank I can't name you all but thanks. Ok enough of the mushy, girly stuff. You guys rock. JoeI. you rock. Molly, I wish I was 18 again. WT, Hollien, Claude, Lynn, Richy, Maria, The Bryds, cliffton, wow, I could go on. The who's who in racing. I was in hollywood! I can't wait to do it again. Hey Needham boys, my kids saw the dvd...they loved it. Garage party boys, thanks for the beer.

It can only get faster from here ya?!

We Sizzle

Post by Marcos Soulsby-Monroy » Tue Feb 28, 2006 6:48 am

First an formost I would like to thank each and every racer and family and Friends that came to our race! I was great to meet each and everyone of you either for the 1st time or to see you again, there was some many cool people in one place is was hard to keep up with it all. To my fellow Outlaws; I would like you all to know that with out your hard work the event NEVER would have happened. There are quite few other people that help out with never being asked and I would like to point them out as well. Lisa Byrd when Bosco dislocated his knee and he had to go. She stepped up and took over his duties as MC and keeping all of us racers in line. Keith Hollien who came out to help coach people act as chauffeur and gave the solution that we needed when we have timer problems on Sunday. C-Nova helped me set up all the brackets with me as well as ran the B class for me so that I could just Race for my heats. To Bryan, Ricky and Karl for reminding me that I WANTED to do this race for the fun of it and helping me relive some stress. And Chris Chaput for helping me with the timer clean up at the end of the day. To Jonathan Harms and Eddy Martinez for setting killer courses for Saturday (Jonathan) & Sunday (Eddy) I'm sure that there are more people that I should thank, I have forgotten i apologize.

I would also like to thank all our sponsors

That Chalk Outline Is Hilarious

Post by Bosco » Wed Mar 01, 2006 2:30 am

Other than the obvious leg BS, the weekend was a smashing success. For everyone who did anything from volunteering to racing to spectating, from the bottom of my heart I thank you for helping me to make the weekend and my first race happen. Lots of work went into it and I think it was worth every second spent.

Now awaiting next year's party. What should I do for an encore?

Wesley - I grabbed that snap of the chalk out line to use on my "My Space" page. If that's not cool let me know and I'll pop it off again. I wrote an account of my fall which can be read there as well. I think some of the details are blurred in my mind but that's what excruciating pain will do to you I suppose.

What an incredible weekend, and what a great group of folks. As a novice racer, I was really heartened by all the more experienced racers who took time out to give me tips and advice.

Thanks for making my first sanctioned race such a good experience!
