A “D” class for those Open riders not qualifying into the Open field of 48 will be placed based on qualifying and given a special recognition at the awards party.

Sunday November 2nd, 2008 “DUEL ON CENTER STREET” DUAL GIANT

Dual Lane Elimination Giant Slalom Racing (ISSA Rules)
PRO (Field of 16) Open A.B,C (Brackets of 16)

8:30 am to 9:30 am Women and Youth
9:30am to 10:30am Warm-up
10:30am to 5:00pm Qualifying and Bracket Race

Due to possible renovations being done to the Famous Hobby Park Soap Box Derby Hill “The Elevator Shaft”, and the benevolence of the State of North Carolina’s Department of Transportation allowing us access to a previously off-limits state highway, this year’s Dixie Cup Giant Slalom will be held in Skatesville on a awesome hill call Center Street. This recently paved and completely redone road is on a great grade and is wide enough to allow the DHB to offer DUAL LANE GIANT SLALOM for the first time at one of our events. Located less than a half a mile from Court Street and less than 5 miles from The Best Western Statesville Inn, you the racer will not have to use a great deal of your gas dollar to drive from venue to venue.
That’s right brothers and sisters you read that right- DUAL LANE GIANT SLALOM inspired by our COSS brothers from previous National Championships on a 1000 foot long course from start to finish line! PRO’s will have their own separate bracket of 16 with Open Riders qualifying into three separate fields of 16. A “D” class for those Open riders not qualifying into the Open field of 48 will be placed based on qualifying and given a special recognition at the awards ceremony following the day’s racing on the hill.

DHB DOWNHILL
(Format to be determined)

Because of our move of venues the DHB DOWNHILL is still in the planning phase and will follow the G/S. Stay tuned for more info as we work through the logistics of the event.

Martin, that color is only common in the upstate. Charleston is strictly blue.

BIG CHANGE FOR THIS YEAR'S FORMAT:

Hobby Park's Soap Box Derby Hill is possibly not going to be available this year due to work being done to restore it. Because of this concern and because the North Carolina Department of Transporation has given ups permission to use a road in Statesville that we did not think we could have access to the G/S portion of the Dixie Cup will be held there instead of Hobby Park. We regret this change for those of you who love The Elevator Shaft as much as we do but I can assure you this new hill is going to be worth the trip.

It's not as fast as Bluegill or The Elevator Shaft but it has pristine pavement, is wide enough for us to host DUAL LANE G/S for the first time at one of our events, and its less than 1/2 mile from Court Street and less than 5 miles from The BEst Western!!!!

Pictures will be posted this week!!!

Email me or PM me if you have questions.

I took it upon myself to provide a little orientation as to the new Dixie Cup Giant Slalom Course:

Image

For those of you who have been to the Dixie Cup previously, you can see the course is literally about four block up Center Street from Court Street.

For those of you new to the Dixie Cup, you won't get to be in a sanctioned race at Hobby Park but then again there's no 45 mile drive to start the day on Sunday.

What's skatesVille without Karr?

Wesley,

You forgot to show Karr's house. (Maybe that's a good thing.)

Went to Skatesville 2 weeks ago for some DHB slalom therapy. I have seen the hill and it's awesome. The dual will be fast.

View From Bottom of the 2008 Dixie Cup Giant Slalom Hill

The start line will be up in the grove of trees at the very top and the finish line will be near the telephone pole you see at the bottom on the left. The run out is plenty long and will not require footbraking unless you just want to ruin a good pair of shoes.

hang on to the "grimace" face though.

What the picture doesn't show is on the next cone he went down, shattered his femur, two ribs, ruptured his spleen, gouged his eye out, broke a nail, lost his comb and bled out 13 pints of blood.

Didn't feel a thing.

FATBOY!!

Let's not forget: Friday night, FATBOYS

Racing doesn't start until 8:30 so I think if we can get out of the parking lot around around 6:00 we'll be eating by 6:15.

Who's in?

Remember: it's the ONLY all-you-can-eat BBQ restaurant with a "Longboards by Fatboy" sticker on the window!

That's the year you won the D Class buddy, way to go! Missed you at the Farm this year. There was no one to keep the French Canadians in line.

Of course when I say French Canadians, i really mean the DHB. And when I say missed you I mean not really :-)

On a more positive note, flight, car and hotel are reserved. Ladies and Gentlemen of Statesville, I need you to put me on your dance card one more time. I can't wait. Dixie Cup is my favorite race. It's like the Farm but I get to enjoy it more :-)

The Farm is my favorite race for the EXACT same reason.

Well, since that photo at the Farm Gabriel has added some practice, some height and about 15 pounds.

That would be an interesting match-up (for a little while). Joe remember you gave him a head start then had to scramble to catch him?

Hope to see you guys again at Dixie. Seems like I will be either confirming or pulling out by the end of next week as things are hapening for the new place. We already have someone standing by for our beds at International House should we not make it.

I remember Claude, that kid gets no head start ever again, in fact if I need to race him again I may try and talk him off his game on the ramp with stuff like "your mom says you're adopted", "your dog is dead", and "Santa hates you!"

That's how I beat Fatboy at the Farm.
