ISSA - International Slalom Skateboarding Association

We are starting the planning phase of the Sizzler for next year. We will be bidding for Main Status. Austin Texas area of course. That is 3 days of slalom racing. The race will be the last weekend of March. Friday GS and SpeedTrap. Saturday Hybrid and Sunday Tight. Entry fee will be a 100$. Locations are top secret, but pics to follow. Is it just me or are car rentals going up all over the place. It's incredible how much they've increased considering the economy.

Depends on where you are going into and when. I have seen rates as low as 55 total for Fri-Mon. PM me and give me your arrival loc/time and departure same. Also what size of car you'll accept. I'll have a look and can tell you what deals I find for you. I have a couple of cool spots for cheap cars. I'm sitting on an SUV right now at 90 total for Fri - Mon out of San Antonio.

Marty, did that rate include cigars? Dude, you always get the most rockin' rental deals.

I've PM'd both you guys with the gory details. The rates in Austin are easily double what I have seen in San Antonio. That and the freakin city taxes are OUT OF SIGHT! The rental I found Claude was a full size at 164 for the 5 days (not bad, not great) and Austin tacked on 71 extra bucks in fees! Fugaaaawi!

Rick yours is a full for 59 bucks but they nail you at 32 bucks in extra yummies. I guess Austin felt we needed to do our fare share in paying for the new city center.

Check both links I gave you 3-4 times a day, they dump cars all the time. You don't have to use a c card to reserve so there is no risk. Just be cool and XL your old reso when you make a new one.

Steve, the car I got out of Boston last year for Antrim was a mid-size at 12 whole bucks a day. I changed my reso about 7 times in 5 days with each one progressively lower. SCHWEEEET. And no I bring my own cigars, Macanudos this time and yes I get them at a deep discount.

Hotwire has Mids for 76 total on thier website. BUT you have to pay up front.

Claude, if you guys have an hour or so on Friday, rent a car for Wed-Fri then book a weekend deal at the same place. All you have to do is drive back and re-sign the papers and you'll save maybe 75 or so bucks. Not bad cheese for an hour, hour and 1/2 tops.

Just a thought.

Amex was running a car + airfare deal that was cheaper than some of the flights out of DC...

As a kid. One day I stood outside our local cement skate park ready for a session.. The park was closed unexpectedly. The sign outside said No Trespassing. The bowls had been filled with dirt and later after it was dug up by the locals. It was the victim of a bulldozer. I swore this would not happen to our aspect of the sport.
This year was tough because I could not compete. I am on the injured reserve list awaiting back surgery and I could not sit for too long either. Sitting for a long period of time is tough on my back.

A huge thank you to one of our biggest sponsors and supporter of our contest Dan Gesmer. Dan leaves sun burnt, tired, but through all the wind, questions, and interesting skateboarding tales, the bro leaves smiling.

After seeing John Gilmour at the 2007 (I think it was 2007) US Open in Longmont for the first time in like 25 years he said something very kind to me when I was struggling to find my long lost abilities (I really thought I used to have some skill) and trying to learn new moves, equipment, etc.:

"Steve", he said "...the only difference between you and me is you stopped skating and I never did". I say this is kind because he could have just said I sucked. Those were easy words for John and made me feel okay about beeing so far behind... Thanks John.

BTW - I know I said this in Tejas, but I'm really impressed by your work with Peter M., he LISTENS to advice and applies what is said right away. So cool to see it, and the run to run improvements. +1 to that! If it weren't for Jack's site, Rick's helpfulness, and the kindness of area slalomers like Steve, I would never have been at the Sizzler. As it was, I had a fantastic time, learned a lot, and got to meet a bunch of you guys! I'm not sure how to describe how awesome it was to talk with everyone and get advice straight from the pros on how to improve. It kind of blows my mind that people who have been doing this for (decades?) were completely willing to come up to me and give me tips, encouragement and feedback on my last run. The advice was immeasurably valuable and I could feel myself getting faster on each trip through the cones.

So, to everyone who helped me, and to everyone who is now my friend on Facebook (if not yet, look me up! I'm in the Bethel IN network)... THANK YOU for everything. Keep an eye out for me at future races
