They have updated the system clock on the server now. It was incorrectly set.
But, now it seems I should have GMT +1, rather than GMT +2 that I've had previously. I updated my own profile and the forum itself to GMT +1.
Is your time correctly displayed in below the logo on the index page.
PS. Probably we all need to switch the settings in the spring when we switch to summer time. I wonder if they'll do it on the server correctly...

Wesley,
I'm just as confused as you are.
I had some doubts setting the time once upon a time but it seemed my assumption was correct at the time. Right now something is wrong. I'm 4 hours off.
Check the time shown under the logo on the index page. Before and after logging in.
The forum is set to GMT + 2. In my own personal profile I set GMT +2 and as far as I know it has worked so far.
Setting the forum time to the same as "my" time seemed correct in these internet days. I don't know where the server is physically located. I assume it is in the US, but where? Maybe it's somewhere else. Maybe they moved it the day when the server "crashed". Maybe that's why. Or the system clock is off on the server.
I will contact the provider and see if the time is correctly set on their side.

Jani,
More stuff since yesterday: now the times are messed up. I know, this is really unimportant, but I'm a firm believer that little things now usually lead to larger problems later.
Ever since the server came back online yesterday, the adjustment for whatever time zone someone is registered in has gone haywire. I'm in the Eastern Standard Time Zone which is five hours behind GMT. It's 7:41 AM here and GMT 12:41 PM GMT. My SS.com tells me I am five hours behind GMT and it is now 1:41 AM. That is completely screwy.
Again, Jani, Jack or whoever keeps up with this stuff, do not consider this a complaint or me making something out of nothing. Like I said, though, little problems like this invariably lead to bigger problems later.
Server WAS down.

I checked with our provider and they said the server crashed. They replied they were working on the problem and by the time I got the mail, the site was up again. But it had been down for hours.

Was the server offline for an extended period between Midnight and 10 or 11:00 AM EST? I kept getting a "502 Connection Error."
I'm not complaing but just curious if it was SS.com or AOL that was having difficulty.
