One of the neat things about this site is that you get to "talk" with industry insiders, usually racers, on racing. You get straight information with personal attention and usually the response is quite fast. Catagorized by topic, sometimes a question you may have has already been asked. Hopefully you have already used the search function to find the information you are looking for…

The other day I ordered a set of wheels from 3DM, Howard Gordon's skateboard racing wheel company. Howard is a supporter of http://www.slalomskateboarder.com and always has the time to answer a question that I may have even if it is trivial. In our conversation on skateboard wheels, he aluded to "various compound" wheels in research and development.

I've found in almost all that I do that someone had to be first at it, what ever it may be. Thinking about various durometers in a single wheel, I remembered the old Emotion wheels of the 70's. On a search of E-Bay, I found a link to http://www.emotionsports.com which is the original Emotion wheels of that era and beyond.

I gave them an e-mail asking if they had any interest in slalom skateboarding and to date, my e-mail has not been answered.

What were your impressions of this wheel back then and do you think they would work now?

HI Adam

I never had these, but a friend used a set for a while until the parts with the different hardnesses broke apart.
Considering the side force effects in slalom, especially today, I do not think they work. Maybe there is better glue available today, but I doubt it would be worth the extra effort to produce them.

I might be quickly corrected on this, but I think John O'shei rode these wheels at the West Virginia race in the rain last October. They were white urethane with the black rubber inset.

The thing that confuses me, though, is I remember the wheels JO had as being "tri-colored." In other words, one band of white urethane, a band of black rubber in the middle and white urethane on the outside edge.

Again, though, this is just from memory of what I saw in passing when JO was riding that hill in the pouring rain. Perhaps someone who was there could give a little more insight than I remember?
