One of the best practice spots in the East. Killer- great pavement- choice of hill set ups- no cars.....PNC is faster but this pavement is a dream.

This is Glen C's practice spot. 40 mins from the NH seacoast and 40 min from Boston. We had about 6 newbies stoked on racing today, Gilmour filmed with his insane new camera. This place is the best all around practice spot I've ever ridden at. No hassels, killer surface ,fast pitch. Parking, no cars allowed. Thanks Glen and friends for turning us on to it. Next time we'll stay for a bite to eat. We will try to ride any nice warmish weekend and mabey see if we can hold a race in the spring. Gilmour, post a vid. TK
PS, no one knows what the hell PNC is... jeeze.

Thanks Terence and John for riding with us on Sunday. What a great afternoon. The younger guys that rode with us had a great day and are talking about "next time". See you later.

I'll send the video clips of the kids to Karl at slalomspot.com- Glenn can view his video here.

disclaimer: having a camera doesn't mean you can film.

Want inexpensive high quality camcorders? The footage the better.

TK, could'nt even see the base of Stratton from the Long Trail House today because of all the rain and heavy fog! Don't know if there is any snow left! "High" temps all week have made me think of skating a little, too bad Gloucester is 4 1/2 hrs. away! Guess I'll keep "waxin' and scrappin'" my MADD!

Time for more filming. Lets try and get an early start. Saturday might be the nicer of the two days though.

I'm in for either day on the weekend. Where is this place?

I will bring my My_Chron timer and anyone who wants to strap it onto their board can get some times.

Joe I, come on up. Matt, lets put that Ick Stick to work!

Sunday is best for me though I can make it up around 2pm on Sat. Mabey both days? Jim, I'll email you directions this afternoon.

Glen, you in? You and Jim would be a good race and Matt and Ben another good one. My Bro in law is up for it as well.
IS this the making of a slalom scene!!!

I could be in for a day this weekend. We were thinking about going snowboarding this weekend but with the warm temps the riding will most likley be poor. Let me know what day and time. If I go I will try and bring the crew from last weekend. TK if you could bring your extra equipment again that would be great.

Where?

How about those directions?

Posted: Fri Nov 21, 2003 1:54 pm
by Glenn Chapman
The directions can be found on http://www.ecysa.org/ go to the maps link and pick Gloucester. This spot is the entrance road for the Magnolia Woods soccer fields. The quick directions are 128N to exit 15(School St). Take a right at the end of the exit go 1/2 mile and turn left on to Lincoln. Follow to the end and take a left on to 127N. Follow for about 3.75miles. They are on the right hand side.

Day and time?

Sunday at 10:30 works for me. If you want to ride Saturday let me know, I may be able to make part of the session. Ben and Millie will be there and we will ask the rest of the crew (Ryan, Windy and Ty) tonight.

I'll bring a sound system- anyone have a large extra car battery?

Jim- you got that great barbeque that you won at some race?

This time we'll download the footage to the web.

Anyone up for skating in the Boston Common on Saturday? Newly paved and nice. If two people commit I'm setting a course.

Another Epic day at the Premier NNE skate camp today. We ran a GS race from the top. Results are as Follows Jim Seiner 1st , Bob Haile 2nd, Bryan "the weasel" 3rd, Glen Chapman 4th, Ben Chapman 5th, Sandy Kirby 6th, TY 7th...Glen can you help me out I can't remember who rounded out the round of 8.

The TS was run in a Jam format with guys just taking runs. Ben , Weasel, and Jim were the standout racers here with the boys showing huge potential. If Ben and Wease train this winter look out next season.

The group Downhill was a big hit with everyone and rounded out a great day. Gilmour hopefully got some footage that will be posted some time this decade. TK

WOW! What a day, 10:30 to 4:00. I needed some asprin and beer after that session. I think that Windy was in 8TH place. I would also like to nominate Ryan as the most improved skater of the day. Thanks to all who participated.

Great day on Sunday. That location is killer. It was great to see all the kids skating slalom and really loving it. And they gave me a good run for my money. It made me realize that kids learn really fast and I better train more or I am going to get whipped by a teenager (AKA Weasel) before I know it. But thats Ok with me if it means slalom is being passed onto a younger generation. Fun day. Lets see some video John!

PS. the Roe S-camber rocks, gotta get me one those for next year.

Jim, John shot some video Sunday. Mabey he could post some up here so others can see the new spot and join us next session. John? Can you do that?

I just have raw footage, but it needes editing. Also I need a firewire cable and instructions for how to upload videos. I'll call Tway.

Posted: Tue Nov 25, 2003 8:11 pm
by Wes Eastridge
John, Micro Center in Cambridge should have inexpensive firewire cables. To upload anything to be displayed on the WWW, you need an FTP application and enough storage space on an ISP.

John I will ftp it to slalomspot, if you want.

Sounds good Karl. How about the footage from before? Any chance to toss that up? I'd like you to put a date on it so we can track the improvement of the kids.

When do you think you could do that?

Karl, nice to see youre feeling well . Now, about the video. Can you get your mom or dad to drive to over to gilmours with the fire wire thing and FTP adaptor. Tomoorow would be a good day as everyone has it off from work and we can all see the cool new video. Thanks, TK

We will be setting cones at the Magnolia Woods Soccer fields Sunday May 2. We will start at around 4:30 or 5:00 and ride untill dark. see earlier post for directions.

No slalom due to wet pavement

Actually....

by Matthew Wilson
The pavement was pretty dry for most of the time. Though it may not have been worth it to set up cones since it was always uncertain if the sky was going to just open up and pour. I tooled around up there for a while, just skating around, up and down the path ways between the fields. That's a great spot.

I'm thinking outlaw race some Sunday. I give the surface a 10 and the hill has got lots of potential. I hope that next time I can make it when the weather doesn't scare everybody away.

Though I drove the 45 minutes to find nobody there, it was cool to see the spot, and tool around town a bit. That's a beautiful part of MA.

Till next time.

Matthew, sorry we missed you. I was coaching a baseball game that went to extra innings only to be called on rain. We had been planing on getting down there at 4:30-5:00 but it just didn't work out. We are planing on hitting it again next weekend. I will try and post a day and time later in the week.

Hey, Glenn. The weather was a bit strange. It would rain in one place and be fine just a half mile away. I'm looking forward to skating with you soon.

Bryan and I are planning to go up and visit Ben and skate all saturday. I would assume we are going to Gloucester. You should join us. I'll get back to you on specific times.

I kind of forgot about Mother's Day. Sunday may be out. You should come Saturday though, it's a sick spot. What did you have in mind for Sunday? I could probably do eary AM.

Possible rain on Saturday!!

This Saturday looks like it's going to be like last Saturday: rainy and cool.

Sunday is looking fairly nice at 69 degrees and partly cloudy.

This weather report is being brought to you by B.A.S.S. (Boston Area Slalom Sessions), your disorganized organization of disorganized groups of slalomers who meet from time to time.

My sources say only a 30% chance of showers on Saturday damnit!! Don't talk like that. Well, we'll play it by ear. The spot is right on the ocean so sometimes it can be a little different than elsewhere. I'll tell you where it's definitely not going to rain, today at Newburyport Skatepark!!
