Hi Brian,

Just wondering when you will add any updates to the list on NCDSA? I find out on the 30th of August if there is a chnace I can race or not.

Dan & Gabe return from holidays next week and we all lan on attending once again. Just want to make sure there will be room when we make the final plans.

Thank you again!

Hi, Claude:

I don't see registration being closed by then. Registration is at the URL below, not at NCDSA, so sign up as soon as the doc gives you the green light.

BTW, in honor of your accident last year, Antrim Police have banned parking on both sides of Rt. 202 to keep everybody safe. :-)

I hope you can come!

Brian

Greetings Antrim Racers:

Well, we've finally opened the registration for the Antrim Can/Am Slalom Championships. I'm sorry for the delay. Find the registration at the Active.com address below, NOT NCDSA.

http://www.active.com/page/Event_Detail ... 381770A488

Before you register, keep these important changes in mind.

o The Antrim Chamber of Commerce, trying to avoid the losses of last year, has made the registration ala carte. When you register, you will be asked to register for the race ($50.00, includes registration, T-shirt, party); the housing (camping/dormitory -- $50.00, two nights); and the meal package $30.00 (Friday night pizza party, Saturday breakfast, Saturday lunch, Saturday dinner, Sunday breakfast). The whole package is still pretty reasonable given local market, but is not as cheap as it has been due to sponsorship money being hard to come by this year.

o Registration will be limited to 64 racers. That's as many as we feel we can get down the hill in the time we have. We will be taking wait list names at mailto: brianbeihl@slalomskateboard.com

o Registration is online payment only this year. If you need to cancel your registration, email me at mailto: brianbeihl@slalomskateboard.com by September 1st and we'll refund your money, provided we have people on the wait list. After September 1, our housing and food is locked in and we can't give your money back.

o If you're really broke and can't afford the camping, please let me know privately by email and I'll find a spot for you.

o T-Shirt sizes, extra t-shirts, transportation from the airport, and housing options are all addressed on the online registration. If you have questions, comments or complaints (I have my Kevlar on), post here or by email.

Sorry for the late changes, but it was unfortunately out of my hands.

Thanks again for coming to Antrim, and I look forward to seeing you in September.

and the Antrim Can/Am Race Committee

These are the current racers as of 8/18 with one month to go. We're a little lower than we should be, mostly because NCDSA gives the impression it's closed, so please pass the word to skaters who you know who should be coming. Thx!

That's great! I'm not much fun in the park, but I'll make efforts to be around there too. I have extra cones, slalom boards, to use or not as the situation requires.

Try to find me when you get here, I'll do the same.

Thanks!

Safety / Housekeeping: Helmets, Pads, Campsite, Bathrooms

Posted: Thu Sep 03, 2009 3:39 pm
by Brian Beihl
Hi, Everyone:

A couple of reminders that I don't want to forget when things get crazy right before the race:

o HELMETS/PADS REQUIRED -- Antrim is a helmet-required, pads-required race. Our hill is fast and crashes do happen from time to time, and Dave K. & I feel strongly about setting a good example for the local kids.

o SKATE PARK Also, Dave asked a couple of weeks ago if anyone wanted to make a "crossover" appearance at our skate park, please set a good example with helmets there, too, please.

o BATHROOMS You asked for porta potties on the hill. There will be one located at the top of the hill, along the hedge near the flag pole. A second will be located at the bottom of the hill to the left of the dam, back in the corner. Flush toilets will be at Town Hall and the Presbyterian Church.

o CHANGING CLOTHES Next to the bathroom at the top of the hill, will be a Superman-like changing booth. This eliminates the need for disrobing in front of classes of 5th graders on Friday :-)

o ROUTES TO HOUSING Bridge construction caused detours to both of our housing locations last year. The bridge to Hancock has been fixed, thank goodness, taking three miles off the trip. I believe the other has been fixed, too, but will verify later today.

Thanks!

Brian

Can you separate them out? DQ still gives points in the World Ranking whereas DNS do not. But then again, maybe this is to be seen as a fun event? But I'm not the one to decide, so I'd just like to see results as clear as possible.

Hey Lavin, a bunch of us were having some Guiness at the Maplehurst Saturday night when the bartender handed me the house phone. A female was looking for Rob Sydia , so is said Rob's not here this year but come on down and join us. Bad mistake! we thought the call came from the cougar Rob hung out with last year. Wrong, it was your friend looking for Rob for some reason. She walked in the bar and expected a grand entrance. She stood there for a while and then said, yeah, i'm the one who called, asked for a beer to be purchased for her and sat down and began her assault. Total nightmare. I regretted my invitation, most of us were biting our tongues cause she needed a lashing, but after 15 minutes of ignoring her, she left. My only question is, why was she looking for Sydia?

OMG! Mike... you were dealing with a 1,000 year-old demon in a 6-spirit bag my friend..., very dangerous. Why she was looking for Rob is a mystery but I bet Rob treated her friend real good if you know what I mean and she was looking to cash-in on some; just a guess.

That is too F&$king funny!!!!

Rob sent me a shout mentioning some of you guys almost lost your virginity that night. Did she bite you? Man, glad you escaped unharmed. I recall her favorite saying to be "oh, shut your ass...".

Thanks for letting me know what horrors I missed. Sorry she spolied your party-time.

Heeeyyyy,

FUN race, great weekend -

I have two pieces of important business for you guys, once you stop laughing about cougar sightings / brushes with danger.

1. THANK YOU, racers! I keep hearing "wow, what a great bunch of people!" and it's not all coming from the local skaters who you showered with racing tips, slick gear, and shouts of encouragement. I hear this from the spectators who witnessed it! You guys showed the good people of Antrim all the right stuff, friendship, support, respect, comradery... I have been asking for and getting quite a bit of leeway from all the "powers that be" up here, and having such a NICE few days in the center of town really helps reinforce that this is a worthy cause. You guys rock!

2. I seem to be the Lost and found dept. this year. I have a grey hoodie w/ Pavel on the sleeves and blue/grey hat in the pocket (George?). A blue windbreaker, Bjork written inside, there was a quarter and a beer cap in the pocket - I spent your .25, recycled the cap, sorry... A Concrete Wave mag, I'm still reading it. And cones: Over the summer I had lost 6 of our 100 seismic cones, now I'm down 12. I have 52 whites, so I'm up! 36 orange, down. I think this might be in the "suck it up" department as shipping $2 cones is kind of a bust, but if you are one of our regulars and notice your collection has shrunk or grown, or if your white cones had sentimental value, let me know, I can ship or let's swap when we meet again.

Other Stuff:

- Delaney's board was found, some kid (blame the kids!) rode it off and ditched it a couple blocks away. Whew! That was a DK homemade, she likes it a lot, relief! I have parts to help set up her LK Axe too.

- I picked up 3 or 4 new slalom skaters for my crew over this long weekend, very cool.

- The local crew got a taste of the real thing, it was sweet - but we know we have our work cut out for us, so we'll be skating our asses off. Look out next year!!
