Cat,

You are ranked 82nd in the Men's Am standings with 1047 points.

I would be willing to wager somewhere along the line a race organizer forwarded points to Corky and did not label some points for the Women's class.

One of the things that's important to do is for a racer who thinks the points standing is too low is look through all the classes and make sure every point is where it belongs. It's also important the SAME NAME is used (Racer X, CMC, Fatboy, SST and the list of nicknames goes on.)

What happens is Corky gets the results and will then split points between Cat Young in the Women's standings and Cat Young in the Men's standings. Then you end up with not enough points in either category to attain your appropriate rank.

I know it's a pain, but Corky manages a database with over 1000 names. It's just not his responsibility to sort through these and know Fatboy is Ron Barbagallo or "C. Young" is you and not an entirely new racer because somebody on the computer initialized your name.

Know what I mean?

Corky,

Julie Julie USA has 987 points awarded for the GS race at the 2007 Worlds and in fact it's Julie Boulanger CAN. Please, could you make the correction when you will have the time.

Thanks in advance.

My son got all my worlds points, somehow he got the name WAX tied into his name. I emailed Corky and he was very helpful, and will adjust it for the next update. Just let him know whats wrong and he will graciously fix any misunderstandings.

Know what I mean?

Sorry, but I'm still confused.
I am only Cat Young in every contest I have entered.
I don't know about all the other racers, but I don't go by a nickname.
I don't know how I can have 3 different amounts for my point status for women's.

Wesley, if I understood how the points are given, then maybe I could go through & see if all my points are correct.
I don't know how the points system works.

World Championships (27.Sep.2007)
Year Class Place Point DQ Num Pro-Open PO Place PO Point Type
2007 WO 3 504 0 0 0 0 TSS
2007 WO 2 540 0 0 0 0 GS
2007 WO 4 480 0 0 0 0 SPC

This does not make sense to me--- what's PO Point

Below is the points for Total & AM women I copied directly from the Slalom Rankings.
The other 3 women have the same points in both.
Can you clarify why?

Also, what is PO Place & PO Point? Does it refer to "Open"?

2007 "TOTAL WOMEN"

1 Lynn Kramer, USA 2760 6 460
2 Olga Kiseleva, RUS 2638 6 440
3 Judi Oyama, USA 2484 6 414
4 Cat Young, USA 2379 6 396

2007 "AMATUER WOMEN"

1 Lynn Kramer, USA 2760 6 460
2 Olga Kiseleva, RUS 2638 6 440
3 Cat Young, USA 2503 6 417
4 Judi Oyama, USA 2484 6 414

I am just trying to understand this whole points thing---- I did read the entire Slalom Rankings site--- thanks Wesley. Of course I still have questions.
I am a curious animal by nature!
Thank you

PO is PRO/Open. It is a method of assigning PROS more points than AMs in a contest that groups everyone into one OPEN group. If more than 8 PROS attend, then the PROS get more points than the AMS.
slalomranking.com wrote:If an OPEN competition has 8 or more Pros the World ranking will divide the results up in 2 lists. One with Pros and giving them Pro points and one with Ams and giving them Am points. But to do this you will have to know who is Pro and who is Am. The World Ranking program, when calculating if you are considered a Pro or an Am, will use the following rules.
For your other questions, I do not know the answers....

Well, the rules were there a couple nights ago, now they are gone?????
That initial page is blank. But clicking on the links in the left hand menu brings up each section of the rules.

I agree it's a bit of a mistake in the web page layout but rest assured it's all there.

It's the "total" rankings" that counts for women.

"Am" class does not exist for women since there is no pro group. All women compete in the "Open" class.

Women can compete in mens classes though and then exist in "Men Am", "Men Pro" classes.

Maybe this can shed some light on it http://www.slalomranking.com/content/co ... c=29&ct=13

But as I say the AM/PRO classes for women does not exist.

I will have a look to make sure all points are correct for the final year rankings.

Look at each racers results ( http://www.slalomranking.com/rankings/person ) and take the 6 best race results (max 2 per event) and you will have the total result.

Nov 30 - 2007
</center>

New ranking was added a couple of days ago.

COSS
The COSS Fall Open is added but... It has no geographic place attached to it so maybe that is why it does not show up in the event list. But it is in there. Have a look here...

http://www.slalomranking.com/rankings/e ... rson?e=226

Please tell me what town it was and I will fix so that it shows up in the event list.

Worlds
One of the disciplines for the Pros had not been sorted correctly according to Qualification results. That is fixed now.

US Nationals
Noticed also a small error at the US Nationals where the Am's have got Open points instead of Am points. So this will make some changes in the top of the AM World ranking for the final version at the end of december. Those AM's who where at the US Nationals will loose some points. Those who where not there will not. What I can see it will not change the fact that there will be a whole lot of Americans in the top. But the order between them might change. Very interesting last episode of that ranking.

The Farm
The only event left with missing results and somewhat high status (Prime).

Missing events
You have until dec 31 for sending in event results. But the sooner the better.
You have until jan 31 for finding errors. After that the ranking stands as is.

See this link for correcting old results and points

Dixie Cup: No results

Maybe we should have some rule for 2008 that if you don't send in the results to ISSA at the latest 2 weeks after the event the points will be lost. ;-)

In the proper format...

Corky, good rule! But as for this year, did you get the Antrim results at least? I've sent them to you twice, but never heard back. I'm stiill working on joe to pull together some results for the Farm.

Can you define "proper format" for all of us? I sent the Antrim results in as Excel Spreadsheets, but The Farm results were pen on paper - which I hope to at least ranspose to a text file when I get a hold of Joe. I'm not the race organizer for either of these races, but I'm doing my best at getting these in to you - it (especially the Farm) will greatly affect my ranking, as well as others I would think.

Thanks for working to get the Farm and Antrim results in the ranking! Hope you're enjoying all the snow!

Karl,

Does your race qualify for any points? I need all the points I can find to get out of equal 610th place!

Terry, Antrim will of course just be Basic status, so if you have other higher status races it won't do much, but the Farm results are important. The winter has kicked in full-on up here...let me know if you are ever headed this way!

By the way I had a quick look at the Am ranking for 2007. The main reasons there are so many Americans in the top is that Brad Jackman was over in Europe on the Major event in Hanover and took home 2 first places. And then Martin Reeves took home 2 first placecs in the Major (Worlds) in USA. And many of the European that did well at Hanover have not competed very well apart from that. And if you fight for getting a good ranking placement the Major events are the most important to do well in.

Also I noticed that Martin did race as Pro at the COSS event. This probably made him loose the AM ranking title for 2007 to Brad.

But Martin can always comfort himself with being the no 1 Amateur Rookie of the Year for 2007. Unfortunatly with the current rules he just spoiled the chance of being the Pro Rookie of the Year 2008 by entering that COSS Pro event.

Lack of follow-thru on sending results in.

Post by Pat Chewning » Mon Dec 10, 2007 5:05 am

It would seem to me that if a contest organizer went through the trouble of applying for a sanction to get an ISSA status for his race -- then he would at least follow through and send the results in so the racers get the appropriate points.

According to my records, as of 11/18/2007 the following races had not had points sent in to the world ranking:

Needham Open 19MAY
Slalom St Louis 26MAY
Nature's Outlaw 03JUN
Canberra 01JUL
5th Czech 15SEP
Kentucky Fried Cone Fest 16SEP
Equiniox 23SEP
Blacktown Beast 07OCT
Harbor 100 11NOV
Overlook Open 27OCT
The Farm 10AUG
Dixie Cup 03NOV
Grande Premio Brasil 20NOV

I suggest that if you were a racer at one of these events: Check the slalom ranking for the points and CONTACT THE RACE ORGANIZER if the points are not listed. Contacting Corky will likely not solve the problem. The problem is lack of follow-through from the contest organizers.

This is EXACTLY what's been discussed at length in this thread.

Is Corky just supposed to know who "Dr. Dan" is?

I submitted results for Slalom St. Louis quite some time ago, and they seem to be reflected on slalomranking.com (I clicked on "Events" and selected Slalom St. Louis, and the results showed up).

Karl,

Thanks for the results but I need the discipline results. Not the overall results.

And if Antrim never got sanctioned I will just set the status as Plain. This status needs no sanction.

OK, smartass, so now when all these people have their points split because CORKY might not know who they are you can be the one explaining the process to them.

How many times does it have to be repeated that it's not Corky's job to research every whacked out nickname to match it to the skater's point standings? When Wentzle's point are spread out between his full name, "WRIV," "Wentzle," and "Dogtown Guy," then who's going to give him the reason why he's 100 places lower in the standing than he should be?

Thanks for making this process easier, Joe. Glad you're on the Board of the ISSA and so cooperative.

OK Wesley, truth be told I have been victim of split points myself and fully intended to go back and resolve name issues (all posts now edited). I was just trying to get things up first.

What I take exception to is before I can even finish posting, you take the opportunity to point out where I am wrong. I wasn't done, but you're so perfect and have so much free time, you can't wait. Did I invent the term "keyboard racer" for you? I forget.

Guess why I resigned from the board of directors? Because of "skateboarders" who don't know Wentzle's last name.

Hope you spell my name right when I come to your race next year.
