Hey Anthony Rojas here
I’d like to race in the Pro class this year.
Thanks
OK, with your First and Second place at the US National in 2024 it seems you are ready to make the move. ;-)
You have now been registered as a PRO racer.

Somehow I dropped out of the Pro class again.
Thank you for reinstating it.
There have been some changes to the World Ranking rules 2024.
We now run strict Men and Women classes for the rankings.
So women are now only getting points for the women classes.
That means also that women who raced as "Open Pro" now is back to "Women" class.
There is no longer any "Open Pro" class. It is now a "Men Pro" class.

The question going forward is now when it would be time to implement sub classes "Pro" and "Am" for Women.
It is not needed because of too many women racers. But maybe there are other reasons as well to consider.

Racer: PRO and Am class

On the World Ranking information section you can read the general text about racer PRO and Am classes.

1. Click the "Step by Step introduction" panel.
2. Click on the "Step 5: Pro and Am class" panel.

If you are an Am racer but want to be registered as a Pro racer, then do so here.
If you are currently registered as an Am racer (that all racers are by default), but you want to be running as a Pro level racer, then you need to manually request to update your racer class to Pro status. Please do so here, or send a PM to the ISSA.

As of 2024 we now have seprated gender classes, Men and Women.

- Pro/Am division only exists for the Men so far in the ranking. I.e. not for the Women.
- Once registered as a Pro you can not move back to the Am class again.

Self attributed vs forced attribution
Even though PRO status is a self attributed class it can also be set by ISSA. While reviewing the AM ranking ISSA may auto attribute Pro status to the top level guys, ie those Amatuers who typically place among the top finishers in the big events (Major and Main status events). It has been an unwritten rule that if you win a World Championship Amateur class then you will be registered as Pro for the next season.

And the other way around ISSA can also say no to moving up to the pro class if there is not enough race results showing that you are ready.

Discipline classes
There is no ranking for the Open class. Only for Pro and Am classes.

- If you run an Open class at an event then ranking points will be counted according to your racer class.
- As a Pro racer you should no longer race in Am classes. If you do you will not get any ranking points.
- Am racers may try out racing in a Pro class. They will then get Pro ranking points. But, that also means they will get no AM points.

Pre-registered racers for WSG
As from 2022, with slalom skateboarding now officially under World Skate and included into the World Skate Games (WSG), it has become even more important to have your racer class in order. If you want to try and get pre-qualified for WSG through the World Rankings then only Pro and Women classes are counted.

Why do we have a PRO class?
- Pro racers typically want harder courses, separated from the Am's. (Especially for bigger events)
- Am racers typically want easier courses, separated from the PRO's.
- Am class was made to give newer racers motivation to race.
- If there are many racers (30 or more) then it's good with dividing qualification into groups anyway.
- When having webcast/TV production on limited time you want to prioritize the PRO and Women classes time/schedule wise.
