Who is sponsoring or organizing the race on 3/21? I have heard a couple rumors but cannot find any info on times, format, entry, etc. Anybody know what's up? maybe the Chicago Long board guys? Do tell.

I might be a part of that.
There are a few of in the Chicago who are new to slalom and are doing our best to pull someting together. We have gotten a permit from the city, but I haven't seen it personally to know for sure what it is allowing.

The street is relatively short, and pretty steep, and ends at a nice park area.

We are planning on qualifying starting around 10 and racing at 12.

I know Mangles is coming down and I believe there are some other locals involved.

Thanks Larry. Hey we did not speak last week - let's talk this weekend.

Steep is good, short is good too since I am soooo out of shape :)

Will be there...

Yes, we were supposed to talk, but the weekend kind of got away from me.
We'll do it soon!
(Hopefully before the 21st!)

I've been planning to come, along with--I hope--at least one or two others from the STL area. I still plan to come, but it's now dependent on whether I can get a slight "transpo problem" worked out--my car got jacked last night. :-(

I've been in touch with Justin R. and will keep him apprised of what's happening.

That's why you should always have Goad in the car with you!

I hope you find it!

while I'm there!

Lavin, are you gonna make the race? or is it too far for you? LOL.

I will be in the area from late the 20th to maybe early AM (flight) on the 25th. Let's try to work in some time.

I'll be hanging around C-Fav's & will likely hook up with Alan.

Do I need a parkboard? or should I have that one meet me in Austin?

Is anybody thinking of doing anything in Sunday?

Glad you're making it.
I don't skate park, but there is one a few miles north of where the race is going to be.

Woohoo! Claude would be great to see you! Yes, let's do something Sunday. There is a great skate spot (yes more slalom) out by the arboretum off 88 near Batavia as well. Skate Parks hell I don't know any that's for teenagers ;)

Larry's crew will know of skate parks out their way and the one by the lake in the city is nice. CFav knows all the rest I'm sure.

Hey, all you local guys we could use a timing system if you have one. If anyone has and needs a PC just let me know and I'll bring mine. Not my race but will help as much as possible.

If I can arrange transpo I'm pretty sure I can bring Goad's timer. I can't imagine he'd say no, but I wanna ask him just to be sure. Will post here as soon as I know anything.

OK, I now know something. We have a timer--IF I can make it up there. That's the next step. One Dagger is still car-less (me), one may have work conflicts (Goad), one has a very sick wife right now and isn't in the planning mood (Graf), and the head of our Springfield, IL satellite office (Bean-a-reano) has iffy transpo.

Maybe it'll be Megabus, but I'ma try to get there one way or another.

Good news, the Batavia city council voted 14-0 in favor of the race.
They are already talking about it being an annual event!

Weather reports are looking good.

Looks like we're having a race!!!

I can't wait to meet you all face to face.

in the finals, I managed to edge out Claude by a couple of tenths.

Well, either Claude started footbraking right after that picture was taken or there were some cones involved.

Maybe the other run in the heat had more of a difference? That picture, though, is NOT a "couple of tenths" finish. That's about as close going for the tape as it can get.

Posted: Fri Mar 27, 2009 8:22 am
by Jonathan Harms
I think there were a couple of cones in that run--three for Claude, one for me? That was actually the first run of two. In the second run I had the "inside lane," which seemed to run a bit faster because it was on the inside of a curve.

I think Claude was faster than I was at the end, but I had a faster push start. With a ramp start, it easily could have been Claude ahead by a few tenths.
