Here is a interesting tid-bit.... One of the many projects I am working on
is a environmental clean up study of old cold-war era missile sites around
the country. The latest is located right next to the 31st Skatepark. While
no infrastructure is left from this site (dismantled after the ABM treaties
of the early 70's I believe) it's still seems like there is a good story
here somewhere. I like the idea of trading NIKE missiles for concrete
skateparks.

As far as I know there is nothing left at the 31st NIKE missile site. The military is going around to all these former sites to make sure there are not any hazardous materials left in the ground. I have a picture of a few NIKE missiles line up along the lake, kind of cool looking. I have heard about the urban explorers you mentioned. I freind of mine wants to do a documentary on a bunch of guys that explore old sewer systems. Poo divers is what I call 'em. There used to be a river that cut right thru st. louis (river des pere) that is now mostly underground and these urban explorers take treks thru those sewers.
