Vintage DH?

Post by Adam Daniels » Mon Sep 11, 2006 9:06 pm

What exactly was used back in the day for a dh board? I had an idea to build one up after i just setup a vintage needlenose and its awesome. This idea is also inspired by the Signal hill videos.

I saw a turner downhill board and that was sick, but i highly doubt i could find one of those.

And was there a gullwing downhill truck? i swear one was on that turner

and wheels?

thanks, this is my winter project

Adam, I built my own DH deck out of a mahagony tabletop it was 47", Kryptonic Greens and full tracks front and rear, 1/2" riser both, no wedge. The wheelbase was 43" - I still have that deck it's in NYC at my parents place. I also had a Sims Taperkick which I just gave to Tod Oles as a DH deck whenever I was caught in need and with one deck handy. That deck had Park Rider wheels and full Tracks.

I used the mahogany deck in skate hill races in central park from 1977 to 1979 and I was very fast. Never a wobble - never.

Bottom line - back in the day you rode what rolled for DH. I honestly do not recall any specialty decks for DH in the late 70's that were not basement born.
