That about sums it up in this neck of the woods. Everything we tied down wouldn't have gone any where anyhow. We didn't even have to close our windows, we enjoyed the sound of wind and rain through the screens.

We will have crappy live feed from Finnish Championship on this Sunday starting at 1PM Finnish time.
So you can see slow we are and see that there are not so many ice bears around here, this time of the year.
This allows you also follow racing in real time and get results in real time on your screen or to your phone.
Will provide url on Sunday at 1PM :)

If anyone is interested FibreFlex has SuperCarves once again in stock. Although the style is a little different, the shape is the same as the Leemo.

I never saw it but there were some complaints the first run had boards that de-lammed but Debbie assures me this is corrected in this new batch.

Anyway, they are available but going fast.

Aloha fellow skateboarders! Fatboy and slalom skateboarding need YOUR help! As you may or may not know, I’ve been working with the All American Soap Box Derby Association. I was approached by them through Michael Brooke to be part of a skateboard exhibition that was put on at their World Championships a couple of months ago. You can read some of the highlights in the latest Concrete Wave as well as see a swell photo of me and Uncle Sam ;) Anyway, the expo was a HUGE hit with the derby officials, racers, and spectators! So much so that they want to open up their hills to skateboarding – that is ginormous news, kids. These hills are a) closed to traffic; b) all over the United States; c) pristine pavement. They are like skateboarding heaven! Perfect for slalom, giant slalom, longboarding, and downhill. Some of the hills are even being considered for street luge.

The crown jewel of these hills is in Akron, Ohio – the home of the AASBD World Championships. The hill there is amazing! Three lanes wide, perfect grade, untraveled pavement, grandstands, and plenty of free parking. The folks that run this spot are VERY open to let us use it. They asked me to put together a proposal for a three year plan for integrating a race schedule and clinics for that hill. That’s where YOU come in! I proposed monthly skate clinics – slalom as well as other disciplines. They would be like open skate jams for everyone – beginners or otherwise. But we need someone to kinda be the go-to person for these events. I’m 6+ hours away by car one way, so I can’t come out there on a Saturday or Sunday to help run things. What we’re looking for is someone who is within an hour or so of Akron, who is willing to sort of host these clinics as well as work with the ISSA for local and National races. There is talk of having the World Championships there in the very near future – Neil Orta of Dr No Racing has already started to get the ball rolling with regards to that, but like me he is many hours away.

This is an amazing opportunity for racing and skateboarding in general. Did I mention that these Derby hills kick ass? The groundwork is already being done for this, we really just need a person of group of people that have the time to get involved. If you’re in the Akron Area or near enough to get there in a reasonable amount of time, PLEASE talk to me! We can help you with all of this – scheduling, hardware, instruction. I even planned for getting you some coin for doing it. My email is: longboardsbyfatboy@hotmailDOTcom. Gimme a holler and let’s get this clambake started!!!

Woah, way to go Ron, sounds great. Good work - nothing like a bit "working together to achieve a mutual goal" - gets the stoke going!
It would be nice to have something like that in the UK, but here they can't even get their act together to dig the roads up at the same time.....sigh!

Keep up the good work.

Is it me or have a lot of this years race results seemingly taken forever to get posted up?
I beleive there is a stipulation to get results posted up in a timely fashion especially for the races awarded higher status.
If it wasn't for facebook us Brits would still be in the dark about Paul (Price) taking 2nd in the Hybrid and 4th in the GS at the weekends Dixie Cup!
I would like to update the UKSSA website with a mention for Paul along with the full results but I can't find any anywhere?

You are absolutely right Rob. It has taken much too long, especially for the higher ranked events. It would be nice to have them up quicker.

One would think that primarily it is in the race organizers interest to put them up, in the topic first, and then the BOD could pick them up and make a front page post out of them. But, we've seen this year that the task has been delegated and then delayed for various reasons. It's a pity and maybe we need to have a discussion how it can be improved. The only way I can think of now, is for status marshals to hunt them down and make sure they get up there.

Interestingly though, back in the days without FB results got up faster. First as rumours, then slowly being confirmed with the (sometimes) gradual posting of official results. Now people chat on FB and not on SlalomSkateboarder.com or NCDSA.com, so some of us are completely left out on the action. It seems we won't be able to sue FB over this topic, so somehow we need to adapt and find a new way.

Suggestions are welcome, but I would still encouraged the individual race organizer to make this a priority and part of the usual task list of putting together an event.

From the perspective of daily interaction with the companies that many look to for sponsorship of events, I can tell you that one of the reasons "sponsorship" for slalom comes solely from the true patriots is that it is the norm for event promoters/orgs to forget about the Race Report. The Race Report, which should include an interesting description of the racing, along with stats/results, photos of the racing and logos of the sponsors, is what skaters want to read---and therefore how your sponsors receive recognition other than from the 2 dozen skaters who showed up...or two hundred, whatever.

Facebook is cool, but it's very transitory and is not a viable replacement for larger format media. The well-established pattern for races to fade into history moments after the event starts is one for which the responsibility rests squarely on the shoulders of whoever puts the race on. There's more work to do, after you pick up the cones.

As of last Thursday the Dixie Cup did NOT have a sanction. They were looking for a Prime. I do not know if they got it or what happened. I know JBH (a North American Marshall) attended the event but if anything has transpired since last week I do not know. If you notice the Dixie Cup as of today is still not listed on the ISSA Contest Calendar. (I did not attend. I made travel plans prior to the DHB announcing the race and I was locked in.)

The Dixie Cup did not receive a sanction. I sent the sanction application, and Lynn, Steve and I would have been happy to grant a Prime, but unfortunately we never got the app back. Sometimes that's not the most important thing for all race organizers - nor is writing up a summary. I'm awaiting the results of the races from the DHB's. Sorry for the disappointment. I will post the results as soon as I get them.

Sanctioned or not, it should be in the interest of all to get the results out. Once again, first of all for the organizer, to get good coverage of the event, and as a service to the riders who came to the event.

Thanks JBH for keeping an eye on it.

To bad Paul and the others won't get any points.

Here in Europe (at least in France), we consider it s up to National coordinator to help organizer with filling status application.
We understand organizer main preocupations are not filling this document, even more for biggest organizations.
I personnaly deal with status application for all events in France... maybe that s the way to go if we want all events receive ISSA status they deserve

edit : is there a US national coordinator?

The organizers were approached well in advance. I personally asked them what kind of status they wanted.

They told me that the race was for fun, not for points.

The results would be nice to know, but that was not the spirit of the event.

Erik, you do a great job on the Fish with race reports. It is a great place for that, and your photographers are out there and at the events. The ISSA also requested that I write a writeup about the Oceanside Open the day after it happened, and that went up on SS ranking site as well. However, I did learn that I am the exception, not the norm. I would not have known it was expected if Corky hadn't asked me for it.

Regarding the DHB, we, the North American status marshalls tried repeatedly to get ahold of them. They did not respond, maybe they did when they finally said they would have a race. We are not sticklers on the actual application unless it is a main. Some people just fill out the top, just the dates, but we know what they mean. This did not happen. As far as I could tell from all our correspondences, the DHB just wanted to have fun.

Lynn Kramer wrote:How does a person know if they are a member? Is it in their user profile?
No one is up-to-date with their membership. The memberships paid in 2010 ran out in 2010, and we only now request that you do sign up for 2011. It is completely voluntary and you can choose to skip 2011, but we need your help to get the election process handled in a proper way.

FYI:
- we haven't withdrawn access to the memberspecific forums for anyone, but will do so once we go into 2012, so if you're not up-to-date with your 2012 membership fee you will eventually see your access to the member specific forums go
- we are inviting all 2010 members to participate in the nomination of new BOD members
- even non-members can be nominated (if you were a member in 2010)
- elected BOD members must settle their membership 2012 before Dec 31, 2011

ps. One idea we had to identify members was to allow profile pictures only for members. It hasn't been voted, but it may come. You're right Lynn, it would be good to easily see who's a member and who is not. Let's see if we can find an easy way to administer that.
