Worlds in Hood River, OR

Just a quick message to let you all know that the Worlds location has been settled. It will be in Hood River, Oregon, on July 17-19. This is the location of the Gorge Games last year. Will include a long Single lane GS, Dual Hybrid (special), and Dual Tight. From the venue description....

Super Giant Slalom: Friday's event will be fast and technical. The fastest times of the day
will be from those racers who posses a delicate balance of guts, brute force, endurance and
the agility of a ballet dancer. We plan on leveraging off of last years course which had 95
cones and was a half-mile long! Winning times will be those who can complete the course in
just under a minute and a half. The course itself is on the resurfaced Historic Columbia
Gorge Highway – which is now a road-wide bike path. The course snakes down along the
scenic Columbia Gorge. Speeds approach 30 MPH and the course consists of wide-open
turns (with tucking), mixed with pumping sections. Legs will feel the burn after these runs!
The runout is long, flat, and open.

Dual Tight Slalom, Downtown Hood River: Tight Slalom Skateboard racing returns to
Hood River. Saturday's race will be a dual Tight Slalom course with 50 to 60 cones spaced
from 5-1/2 to 8 feet. The course will have several different sections consisting of straight
cones, offsets and step-overs. Dexterity required! The road surface is not perfect, but
rates about a 7 out of 10. Winning times range around 20 seconds, so this is 3 cones per
second racing…. The runout is long, uphill and wide. No foot-braking is required. The
course is right downtown in front of the Full-Sail brewery.

Dual Hybrid Slalom, Downtown in Hood River: Dual Hybrid slalom on a road TBD,
length TBD, cones spacing TBD. At a minimum, this will be on the same road as the tight
course, right in front of the Full-Sail brewery.

When it's cold and raining I find myself taking that GS run in my head. I absolutely love that hill. We already have a house booked for the week with a full view of the city & mountains off the back deck.

YEAH!!!!!!

Fun Times Great Skateboarding

I dont understand why there are not more people signed up for the Worlds in Hood River, as of this date. I am really looking forward to going back to Hood River. Every day I wake up and wonder why I am not living there, so beautiful. Surely a sportsman's dream of a place. An excellent place for the worlds, and why are you Euros and Swedes not signing up and traveling? You will not regret your trip. This is a good one!

Joyce, I don't know if you noticed but the Pound Sterling and the Euro are down the pan at the moment... Flights are more than they have ever been right now from Europe. If I hadn't already moved to the US, I couldn't afford it.
Anyway, I'll see you in Hood for a beer :)

Martin.

Maybe we should have it at a neutral spot halfway between Europe and the US...Iceland Worlds 2010?

I´m sure we can find a perfect lava-spot over there.
The weather in Iceland is maybe a hazard, but it is not a bad idea...seriously.

Let me know or if any of you arriving the 16 around 9pm so we can split a car rental in between use. Right now if everything goes, Me, Emilie and Mr. Ricard will be in portland on the 16th in the evening.

Seb - I fly into Portland on the 14th - straight from Colorado, not coming back to VT in between.

Staying in town in HR with friends.

4 days before the World Champs I am on crutches wearing a black velcro boot. Due to a colleague's lack of ability I got injured working on the zip line.
Am I pissed off? Doesn't even cover it.
Am I still going....YES!

See ya there...
