Slalom is not a prerequisite for dh, but we try go get everyone to take at least one slalom run. And yes, all of us slalom geeks have loaner setups for the dh crew to take slalom runs on. At our race in March, we had 47 out of 51 (if I remember correctly) total racers get a time, and a total of 4 of us had been to a "real" slalom race before. It's a great way to get the dh guys interested in slalom.

The timer we are using is a Brower system, basically donated to us by a local slalomer who used to run the Brighton Ski Team.

If we end up doing a dual lane outlaw race on Sunday, we'll be using the EZ lap timers for timing.

I'm glad to see some dh-slalom crossover initialization. Will slalom be a prerequisite for dh? Maybe with loaner boards for dh guys who haven't slalomed yet? That seems to be the biggest drawback of dual crossover races.

We're having another event in Utah, USA. We'll start in the morning with an easy hybrid course and have a jam session with start ramp and timing. At the end of the slalom session, we'll calculate the results, which will actually be used for qualifying for the Downhill portion of the event in the afternoon. Not required to ride both slalom and DH, unless one wants a crack at the "overall" title. Both the Slalom and Downhill portions of the event will be great for all skill levels of riders. $10 entry fee, cash and swag prizes.

Slalom racing in the AM, Dowhill racing in the PM, Lunch provided for racers by Performance Longboarding

Also, possible dual lane outlaw racing on Sunday 10/14 depending on how many racers want to participate. Either GS racing on a faster hill, or dual-lane tight slalom on the same hill as the hybrid event.

Of course races needs good announcements, but it seems riders are not really able to pick up their times from those announcements, so having an extra screen showing the timing spreadsheet is probably the most important solution to provide times to the racers. Ideally in addition to big screen display of times for each course. But that is more difficult to achieve.

Non-stop. Good thing Gesmer taught me to never say anything to the timing person.

I agree. One of the DC Outlaws has a PA and we intended to use it.....due to the turn out I deemed it not neccessary. I have since heard back from the county and we have been given the go ahead to allow more public next year and will definitely be using a PA system for the spectators AND racers. Also, when the racers times are announced over a PA system it will cut down on the non-stop attempts to bug the timing crew...

I would like to talk about PAs. A PA has several uses, when installed in conjunction with a knowledgable MC.
1) it lets racers know who is the leader, and what is the time to beat, making for better competition.
2) it keeps spectators involved in the race- what round is this? Who should I root for? It's not quite so boring between heats.
3) it lets racers know when they are in the que.
4) you can play music during practice, which is just cool.

We rented a PA last year for $125, and a generator for $85.
The year before that, we bought a PA at Radio Shack, plugged it into my car transformer? Then returned it.
This year, a teammates dad donated his PA and the generator cost $65.

A PA is part of the Main status guidelines, but at least two races this year didn't have one. My recommendation is it is not a luxury. It adds to the overall environment of the race.
