For my July 4th race I explained in letter to the people who controlled the road I was using (The Metropolitan District Commission) who I was, who we were, how many people were likely to be there, our safety record, that we were responsible adults, and that we would comply with any rules that the Police might deem necessary.
I was granted permission to use the roadway- a major highway that runs along the Charles river....for no cost.
