Re: Slalom champions

Post by Jani Soderhall » Tue Jul 11, 2017 1:50 pm

You're right Claude.

I was making similar lists a couple of weeks ago preparing for the Swedish Championships. It was a lot of work to scroll through all the results to figure out what results swedes had done in the various championships over the years.

Josef Stefka also compiled a spreadsheet years ago with the data. We should look that one up and add to it.

Anyone keen on doing a little research just "Quote" one of the listings above and help out. I can format it appropriately afterwards. Also, I would probably but the final listing up in the top menu, so it's easily accessible. That would be handy for anyone looking to verify a result or a specific rider or a specific race.

Listings needed:

Men
European Champions: tight, hybrid, giant, overall
World Champions: tight, hybrid, giant, overall

Women
European Champions: tight, hybrid, giant, overall
World Champions: tight, hybrid, giant, overall

We could start with the Pro and Womens results, but it won't be complete until we have AM, Masters and Juniors results added too. So we're in for quite some work.

I would also add a list with race locations, that'll be the easiest one to complete.

If you want to help out just grab a category, and start completing the list. ... just hit Quote on a previous list.

Thanks!

/Jani

Don't know about 2003 but in 2002 either Sharon Sidlo or Terry Brown swept it. (She was Benko then but not anymore.) I don't even believe Lynn was racing in 2002 or at least not going to major races.

I could be wrong but as I remember she and Jason both showed up in '03.

Awesome JBH -- I'll grab your list then to use for my updates! ;)

What do you guys think about moving this thread to the "results" category so it's more visible (and likely to get more updates from others)? I actually had to search around awhile to figure out where the heck it was (I had seen it before but then couldn't find it again).

I checked with Lynn via Facebook messages, and she clued me in on where my list was incorrect.

Lynn won the TS in 2003 and 2004 at Morro Bay.

Noemi Reichel won both the GS and Hybrid in 2004 at Morro Bay, and the Special in 2006 in Brixlegg.

I've edited the list so it's (more) correct. Still unsure of who won the Hybrid/Slalom in 2002 and 2003.

Yeah, Lynn won the GS at the 2007 Worlds. That was the race on Bluegill hill out in the country north of Statesville.

This is a good idea guys.

Gary -- please add:
2004 - TS US National Champ - Richy Carrasco
2006 - TS US National Champ - Richy Carrasco
2006 - Overall Pro US National - tie Jason Mitchell & Richy Carrasco

Getting Lynn's stats together and any others I can to provide coming up.

Maybe this thread should be given it's own heading rather than be under "random"? Probably others will get involved in adding stats if it's easier to spot.

Cheers!

Canadian Slalom Champions

There were no National or Slalom Championships run in Canada between ‘82 (except ’86) & ’90. Then again nothing until 2006.

I will look into some old photo’s and try to determine the female winner in ’81 as I believe I may have a photo somewhere..

Not sure prior to ’81

- Jim Minty (Ottawa) or Mark Anthony (Montreal) were 1st & 2nd at the Nationals held in Ottawa in 77 or 78. It was a 16 & under only Canadian Championship. I do not know who won the Slalom event.

We still need to clarify who won the Pro class in Vancouver 1986. I don't recall if it was Skoldberg or Hester, but José won the AM class with a time faster than the winner in the Pro class, so can leave him alone in that position until we find out.

Claude, weren't you in Vancouver 86? Anybody else has the results, ideally the complete list!?

Was this the European Championships 1991? I don't recall where it was.
Maybe we can do a complete list as well, for the record.

I'm pretty sure it was in Madrid. For the Italian event, Gianluca just picked a cool name, which happened to be close to the "EM" name. We should check the Slalom! mags (this issue was never uploaded to the site).

This was not parallel, not really straight and had individual start where the lifting of front wheels was introduced I believe.

I remember that organizer prefered street and free style. Slalom racers was a little. But was it Euro Champs. I have first three results - still third in special and parallel Alavoine FRA. (4 racers from CSSR).
