Having had some time to think about it. What about my Idea for for an International North American event as part of a World Tour Competition.

For all of you out there at Da Farm I asked John if he would be interested in being part of a doubleheader.

Ottawa, Canada July 1, 04 and Boston July 4, 04 both Countries Birthdays.

This would have to be run as cut and dry as possible. A properly run full event. It may even make more sence to try and run it in DC and make it a north American Capitol Cup Quest or something.

Anyhow I thought I would through it out there for some discusion. It would be a little easier for more of the Europeans to make the trip as well as more US. and Canadian riders.

If anyone is interested in something like this please let me know. JG give me your thoughts. I'm pretty sure I could get things going here and get the required support because we have run several competitions and Demo's on Canada Day in Ottawa.

I could also get a lot of organizational support as to make it part of the fundraising or our indoor sk8park.

Any other International organisers interested in making it part of a World Wide Race package for the 2004 season. This may get us additional coverage. Also if there were two European competitions a week apart then some North Americans could take part and it would be more affordable.

So then if the Western US did the same or even hosted the Worlds again we could have a 5 event World Series.

I would do a July 4th race....but this time only an evening race.

We would risk rain...but hopefully we wouldn't have that problem this year. But we have avoided rain 3 years in a row so far....

I'd just do one head to head ts event.

But I would certainly have some skating before July 4th say a little night slalom in the Boston Commons new wide GS hill- say on Friday and Saturday night. I figure people could go sight seeing with their wives or perhaps hit the beach.

AS for traffic. People could always park in Alewife station and take the t- into town. Nearest stop is the Charles street stop you wouldn't have to change trains this way.

We would slalom close to the fireworks barge this time- with the runout ending in the tunnel.

Race time start would be late 6pm.

But what about Dave G's race? I wouldn't want to have a conflict again.

I could call, but this is so much cheaper AND it puts you on the spot in front of all the skating masses around the world!

The Fourth Of July in 2004 falls on a SUNDAY. That means the federal holiday for the 4th will be Monday. The possibility of hundreds of skaters descending on Boston for the weekend is multiplied many times by this quirk of the calendar. For me, just taking off Friday and already having Monday turns the trip to Boston into a four-day vacation with some skating. Heck, we could ORGANIZE two full days of racing with a Boston Commons event on Saturday and the Storrow Drive race Sunday (I really had fun in the Commons that night. Can't wait to go back.)

So don't delay, Herr Organizer: get the Boston International Slalom Cup on the calendar NOW.
