Alberto Tomba was a bit of a podgy (big boned) playboy, who devastated Ski Slalom, especially tight for years...There is a relevance to skating here as it provoked thoughts on what the optimum style, technique and size should be for slalom, and I believe that can be transferred to skating.
He took what was a less glamourous part of skiing to the masses.
Recently a Brit, (Alan Baxter?) took third at the Olympics for Ski Slalom only to be disqualified for drugs. He used Vics Sinex just before his race. The sad thing is that the composition of Vics is different in the UK and and had he used the UK stuff and not the US sourced stuff he bought in Park City he'd have been fine.
Its funny how any form of slalom technique can be transferred to different forms. Martin Drayton told me about a driving test he had where he had to drive around cones in a car. It was his first attempt and he took it 'slowly'. Only to see his instructor grabbing everything solid in tha car and exclaiming it was the fastest he'd ever gone through the cones.

show me the money!
OK Vlad you smart alec.
This is a Slalom "SKATEBOARD" site.
First, Luca is Italian
Second, I was going on what I remember off the top of my head about Vlad mentioning about Luca's 8 slalom skateboard World Cups here: viewtopic.php?t=1235
Thirdly, just look closely at this picture here, where are all heads pointed:

And Vlad, I won't take a PERSONAL check!

Here are more clues for you
More clues:
4. A non-Italian company made his equipment
5. This non-Italian company was and still is a success
6. Many started copying his technique and equipment
7. No one could master it like him
8. The guy was a “powerhouse” in the late 1980s; many thought his muscles/constitution was his secret
9. One guy who now lives in France did a sequential time analysis from some videos. It turns out that this Italian champ made up time on easy and easier racecourse parts, where no extreme muscle work is required.
10. His slalom amplitude is a bit larger then average.
