The art of ellipsis a favourite among slalomers

Post by alavoine jean paul » Thu Mar 09, 2006 8:37 pm

Sam Gordon wrote:"Etienne has skated so hard this winter THAT..."
Prosaic pro slalomers have a right to ellipsis in their prose.

For as we all know: Often the effect of ellipsis is no more than to suggest a closer connection between the content of the clauses, but sometimes the effect is to indicate that there is a combined process rather than two seperate processes.

Am I right?

it was alive the whole time.
interesting to see the reactions on my post, nevertheless.

what is alive and what is dead will be shown soon enough.

Nice attempt, Donald.

So, I would say:
slalomskateboarding is alive.

here's the lowdown on etienne so far.
we had a little conversation behind the scenes,pm-action.

etienne is likely to come to the 3rd G.O.G. and when he leaves,he will go down any ramp.
we will do a private session without anybody present and after that....voila....
i think that etienne will stick to his word and i also think he'll go home with a big smile on his face.
i will personnally make sure that he overcomes his blockade and has fun going down a ramp.

there are a few other people i know who had the same problem.but it's cool when you have friends with portable ramps around.some assistance and there you go.

don't bash on him now,i think he really wants to do something.
and if he does so,show some respect.
i would appreciate that.
thanks so far, etienne, for trusting me and showing interest.
you won't be disappointed.

"Etienne has skated so hard this winter THAT..."

OK, so there's room for a 'stewards enquiry,' but that sentence wouldn't guarantee entry into anything but the new improved colloquial Akademee Onglaiz. It is the equivalent of clipping a cone on a hundred-turn-shootout.

And (what? starting with a conjunction?) whilst you're doing a bit of grammatic moderation, give this a whirl: http://eatsshootsandleaves.com/ESLquiz.html

But then again, Jonathan Harm's can out-librarian me.
Or did I mean skate?

Etienne has skated so hard (as compared to some other folks) this winter he has become deaf to any ADVICE.

Hey Don, thanx for the offer, (i hadn't read it all yesterday...)
I don't think i'm quite as ridiculous in tuning as in competing, particularly i enjoyed some teaching from Vlad Popov in the past and i do more mounting and testing than anybody else around, but i'll be very happy to listen to your advices.
Thanx Ramon too.
Don, do you plan to report the #3, and climactic, Triple Crown race ?

However i'd wear all possible protections during this session, as i was too frustrated being unable to resume my first ever ramp training session in Antibes, after logically hardly crashing at first attempt (this ramp was actually not the ideal one for a first try); so please keep the sarcasms.
This protecs bashing thing is really ridiculous Don, please use some other insulting matter, even national stereotypes are better, sexual tastes usually simply fit, as one is free to imagine them at will...

i'd say Don and i have lots in common and we understand each other pretty well, we do not like to hide our feelings and opinion, as once expulsed and shared these don't hurt anymore (these don't hurt oneself anymore, actually...).

That goes for Don and i, but maybe we should care more of those who do not feel it quite correct to flame one another around so easy all the time, and therefore may experience more durable... moral discomfort.
