BoardFree: Skater to cross the UK then Australia 2006
At 8am on Sunday April 30th longboarder Dave Cornthwaite is due to start his length of Britain charity skate in John o’Groats, northern Scotland. Skating the UK to warm up for a 5000 mile journey around Australia’s south coast later this year, Dave will be riding on Elsa, his trusty bright yellow carbon fibre longboard, and is inviting anybody who skates (on a board or quads or inlines), cycles or generally rolls their life away without a motor to join him for a section of his UK journey.
Dave will be skating an average of forty miles day for 29 days, and aims to reach Land’s End on Sunday May 28th. He’ll be passing through Inverness, Perth, Edinburgh, Carlisle, Lancaster, Liverpool, Gloucester, Bristol, Taunton, Exeter, Plymouth, Falmouth and everywhere in between.
If anyone wants to be a ‘local rep’ or simply wants to come along independently, the more the merrier! Please think about getting sponsored for a section, we’re supporting three children’s charities; Link Community Development, the Lowe Syndrome Trust and Sailability Australia and Dave aims to raise £50,000 for them this year. Dave will also be stopping off at schools on the way to encourage children to take up sport, if anyone can suggest a school on the route please get in touch.
Check out www.boardfree.co.uk to find out more about the project and the UK dates, and if you’re up for joining him on the road or suggesting good local roads (the glassier the better) drop him a line on dave@boardfree.co.uk. Cheers, hope to see some of you soon!
