Madrid Old Skool Skaters (MOSS) is born!.

MOSS is a non for profit organization created by skaters for skaters to develop skills, share experience and have fun skating together.

The goals of MOSS are:
- To improve the perception of Skateboarding among authorities, businesses and the public at large.
- To communicate the positive values of Skateboarding: ecology, respect for others, drive for excellence, positive attitude and community building.
- To organize events and competition of every Skateboard style.
- To integrate Madrid and Spain in international Skateboard competition circuits.
- To teach others how to learn or improve their Skateboarding skills.

Our members' base reflects our goals: we have students and PhD's; Skateboard champions from the 70's and new promises; 55 years old youngsters and 8 year olds. Women and men together to transmit and share our passion with others: Skateboarding.

MOSS is a non-for profit sport association legally incorporated and registered in Madrid.

That's very cool Ricardo.

Please keep us informed of your success and feel free to ask questions. Some of us have been organizing for almost 10 years. I'm sure Spain offers some unique challenges, but other items should be the same and we can offer advice.

I hope you'll eventually organize some larger contests and I for one would like to come and skate with you. Here are some things to keep in mind for international travelers.

#1 Advance notice - The more time we have to plan the cheaper it is.
#2 Housing - finding a good deal for skaters to sleep
#3 Mass Transit - can we get from airport/hotel/race site without renting a car?
#4 Expectations - publish pictures of the hill, what local weather should be, do you have permits?
#5 Party - sometimes we travel a long way and local guys all go home after the race. part of the reson I travel is to meet and hang out with you and your friends. Let s have a party!

Good luck and congratulations on the new organization.

Thanks for the advice and support.

Being Spanish, the party part is guaranteed! For the rest, we just are getting started. We plan to do some local comps to get experience and then go for some international exposure, likely 2010

We'll keep you posted!

Joe: I'll be your travelling partner/translator!!! :D

You do know I'm HUGE in Spain, they love me over there.
In fact, I'm as HUGE there as you are up here in Canada. ;)

Now that I think about it, I'm huge everywhere I go...
I should start training and get on a diet... :(

Note to Ricardo - Please don't plan for August.

Note to Mig - you're hired! Can we go to the Tomatina festival? Because you know I've always felt slalom racing could use a tomato fight!

Don't worry Joe. Spain shuts down in Agoust for holidays and goes to the beach.

Mig: yes you are HUGE in Spain. You have a pending trip here to check your roots & beat our asses. We'll make sure you get "HUGER" with some tapas and paella ! :-)
