My quick advice is two things:

1. Wear a helmet.
2. Get "centered" on the course.

"Centered" means to skate mentally through the middle of the course as opposed to allowing your whole body to "out" to one edge and then "out' to the other. The way Professor Evans and Instructor Gilmour describe this (and they are correct) is to skate with the hips, not the legs. This keeps the momentum going DOWN the course instead of going way out on a tangent and then trying to work your way back to the center. If you stay centered then there's no need to work hard to get back. Remember: the finish line DOWN there, not OVER there.

One last thing (OK, this makes it #3). From the video it looks like everyone is either staring at their feet or just a cone or two ahead. Look UP and have your eyes fixed far, far down the course. Where you are is too late to correct. It's where you're going that matters. When you see the course the body will make the adjustments to make the cones once you get there. But if the course is a surprise then it's too late to make a move.

Finally, why isn't the church playing AC/DC's HELL'S BELLS?
