Grippins

We got to do Grippins test runs today. They're killer! Chris set me up with what I normally run, 81 back & 84 front, but with the insane grip it seems like I could have gone much harder.

Here they are on my 95mm Airflow, wide contact patch but still a narrow setup overall:

Oops, seems I left a little info out.

The wheels are 70mm tall and have a 50mm contact patch. The hub is small and center-set, which is why they can have the big contact patch and still make for a narrow setup. The lips are basically equal on both sides and are thicker and rounded - I experienced no edge squirreliness.

All in all a great new wheel.

What's the low-down on this wheel? Is there going to be another wheel revolution led by green?

Mathew look up the Abec11 site, I spoke with Elizabeth this AM she is sending my Grippins via UPS 2 day delivery shipping. From what I understand they already made the podium in Germany. Eddy Texas Outlaws.

GRIPPINS for TIGHT

Grippins for tight:

I've been running both faster and slower tight courses with the Grippins. I like them a lot. I've been getting some clean runs in on some fairly challenging courses that I wasn't running clean before. It could be that I'm just improving, but it also could be the wheels. I sure don't have any complaints about them for tight. No sliding whatsoever and an extremely predictable snap for that tight little bop-bop-bop-bop-bop-bop-bop...

Keep in mind that I'm no expert and might be prone to shooting my mouth off about something I don't understand or know nothing about.

None the less, I sure am digging those Grippins for tight. My setup has all 88a wheels with a Chicken Indy 88 front and Chicken Indy 88 offset rear, on a 17" w.b Crossfire with added concave + lots of wedging all around. The rear truck also has small spacers to allow the wheels to clear the offset arm.

They're quick, they're accurate, they're green.

I took a ride on the new Grippins today, 92a front,88a back.
on a mellow hill ,50 cones, 6 ft. on center.
While giving it all I had, the wheels never slid once, and they wanted more. dispite all the crap being said about "green wheels, I think they ROCK! Sense its my feet on the deck and its my opinion, I'm happy
GREAT WHEELS CHRIS !!

Tom,
out of interest what set-up were you riding? Deck, trucks...
I am getting some Grippins sent to me in France via Germany and am very impressed with the Gumballs and Biltin-7's I just got.
I think all that negative stuff is "personal", they seem to do well in all events be they speed or slalom.

Hi Martin,
My deck was a Turner G/S Hybrid Stiff flex, Tracker RT/X cut to about
98mm on front, And a RT/S stock in the back. Biltins also

Yesterday I put the new Abec11 Grippins on my WeFunk Foam Board and they totally ripped !!!!! 92a in front and 84a in the back seemed the best set up for me !
The Quality of the wheels is very good ! No bubbles in the wheels ! :-)
...an the green colour fits better to my red powercoated Tracker Offset !

yes, grippins are awesome. i like them better than my zig zags and i seem to feel that the 84a's are grippier then 83 zags

I'd bet that most people ride softer, not harder, at Indian School. Kenny Mollica and Greg Fadell both rode Pink Gumballs (76mm, 77A hardness) last year, and they did pretty well.

I'd suggest something no harder than 81A in the 70mm to 77mm range. Then again, Dillon says you're the banked slalom master at Lansdowne, so what do I know? :-)
