No canadian team this years? It's a pity!
Here are some informations about the slaloms.
Tight and special will be held on a flat place, the quality of the road is good. The place for the giant is still on the Garoupe road in theCap d'Antibes. step and fast on a good surface, lengh is about 250 meters with 40 cones. Space between gates can be more than 7 meters in the begining, then be tight and tight at the end. Speed is about 45 Km/h 25 m/h.
The nation's slalom will be race on the slalom special pro.

I do accept your place for the accomodation Fred (too bad you can't come), but I hope Vinz doesn't snore... at least not too loudly!
Question: How come there's only 15 pros registered in Antibes, have all the others retired (again)?
P.S. : Max, long time no see. I missed the contest in Germany, but south of France will be great for a battle of the veterans!

Hi Pierre,
Before all the places go, I just wanted to confirm that you had the following booked for the Brits...
1) Double/Twin for myself and Julie.
2) Double/Twin for Niall and Sue.
3) Twin for the kids...Paul Price and Sam Gordon!
Thanks, we are all looking forward to coming to the most beautiful place to skate! I'm sure a British Team will be formed for the Nation's Cup (I can't be in it, Team Trinidad, but I'm sure the others will)
See you soon...

Cool, some of the Brits (and me) have booked already... Should be cool hanging out together, reminds me of the Paris Comp in 1980. Really looking forward to it!

Sleeping in Antibes Sports Academy
Hi everybody!
Here are some precisions about the sports academy in Antibes, where, as Pierre said, 30 people can stay.

The CREPS (means "Regional Public Center for Sports Education". No, that's nothing you can eat.) is right on the Antibes harbour, biggest tourism harbour in Europe. Lots of international-level athletes live there, providing a very good atmosphere.

The bedrooms will be either double or triple ones. Associals must pay an extra fee to be in a single one. Includes a bathroom, with toilets shower and sink.
There is space for your boards and all your stuff.

The interesting part. All the ground was freshly done, and there are quite a couple of good spots you can lay your cones on. Two parking lots, and 50m long alley, in the shade. Without forgetting the whole harbour!

There also is some kind of small terrace, where -with authorization- you can use the barbecue. There are also a basketball and a tennis playground, if you're afraid not to be tired enough!

The CREPS is five minutes riding far from the train station (cruising through the harbour) five minutes as well from Antibes' most animated block, and 10 from the beach, and the slalom spot. (Sorry, i had quite a nice picture of the beach, but my girlfriend won't let me put it online...)
Prices:
-Night / breakfast : 17€
-Night / breakfast / Lunch : 23€
-Night / breakfast / lunch / dinner : 26.50€
-Simple lunch : 8.50€
I guess night and breakfast are enough, as we'll be together the whole rest of the day.
Bedrooms have to be free at 09:00, and a luggage service is provided, where they can keep your stuff for the rest of the day
I hope this was complete enough, and answered the questions you may have had. For any further information, please contact Pierre.

Seeing you soon, Mulaan.

Hi folks!
I'm proud to introduce....

Palm trees, sunset, and a small wave that one can hardly see : of course, it's a mediterranean wave...
There's gonna be a great atmosphere, with lots of demos, and for the first time, a streetboard category (you may know it as "snakeboard") which may surprise you. Haha...

Entry fees are not still decided. But something as 15 euro for one race then 25 for 2 and 30 for 3. The nation's slalom is free.
about the nation's slalom, only 3 racers are necessary; the spare skater can be a joker for the very strong team.
we expect to have very famous team as "Italian, swiss, german, sweden, england or US, but you know it can have small local team from the same city or racer from the same sponsor. But the 3 racers must be from the same country. that's one important rule to stay a "NATION SLALOM"
If we put a price money, it certainly reward the 3 best teams.

Prize money
Pierre,
What about prize money in the pro class? Have you given that a thought?
PS. Entry fee for pros is higher in Paris than for amateurs/women. In part the entry fee of the pros pay for the prize purse of 3250 euros that we're offering.

The UK are likely to have a few teams because of the problems of defining what is UK.

hello Patrick. Sure you can make a local team from your city.
There is no limit number of team for one country.
I'm sure we'll have several country from nation as Switzerland or France.
But it's important to have a major team to fight against the best of the strong nations as (Italia, Switzerland or England);
as soon as the internet site will be ready. You'll be able to register on line.
see you in Antibes

When and how do we sign up? (I can't wait...)
I was also thinking about the national teams idea... If there were only "national teams" per se, I'm thinking you're not going to end up with very many different teams (five... six?)... Is there any way you could allow "city teams"?
I don't know if this would really be a better idea but it would certainly let more people take part in the race and it might even motivate more riders to come (just for the sake of being three to make a team...). I'm also thinking it might even be a little more fun, as you'll be riding on the same team as the guys with whom you ride your regular sessions... It might give the race a more local, fraternal spirit rather then a few elite "all star" teams (unless that's what you're looking for...).
Simply a suggestion...

the spare skater of "A" team can race in the "B" team if he doen't race in the "A" team.
A spare skater is in a team in case one of the rider is hurt or has any other problem. the moment he takes part activily with a team, he can't race for another one at the same time.
Solution is to register the spare skater "A" team in the official list of the"B" team.
You only take the risk, if you need him in the "A" team, that the rider must make a choice between his 2 teams. but in this case the spare skater of the "B" team can enter.

Teams
I like the idea, and we may have 2 or 3 teams if we can. Can the spare skater skate in the "B" team if not needed in the "A" team, or does the "spare" go all the way to France and not skate. I am sure you have a solution.
It amuses me that we penalise age, other sports compensate for age. This shows the unique aspect of skateboarding.
Still unsure on the operating structure of the races but I am sure this will be clarified.
Good work, you know I only raise problems

hello Chris.
Longleat and other races can help you to compose the english team(s)
In Antibes : The team must be announced before the first race (during the registration). The classment of the team is given by the points of each rider on the 3 slaloms ( tight, special and giant slalom)
The nation slalom will be held on a flat place, not too dificult and not too tight. It will have 39 cones and one rider from the 3 first nations put 13 cones each.

Tie in with Longleat
If there is a team event lets tie Longleat into it. This is looking like a strong event and i will look over the site soon. If we have national teams then not everyone needs to make each comp, just a minimum number.

I was sure you'd like this idea of nation's slalom.
I keep that from the time I was racing in snowboard and I remember of the nation cup which was a meeting of a lot of countries, it was full of suspens, team are fighting hard, but it was always friendly.
Martin : I have think about junior class and woman.
First I think about 3 men, 1 girl and 1 young.
The problem is that very good country as England, Italia or sweden has no girl to race, same about junior class. That why, this year the team will be only with 3 riders + 1 replacement.
Corky : I think About the idea, of handicap but very difficult to determinate correctly.
(think about Jani against Chris Art, the same level but one seconde more for Jani because he is older!!!)
So for this year :rules will be very simple.
3 riders + 1.
The 8 best team fight together (1 vs 8, 4 vs 5, 3 vs 6, 2 vs 7)
Teams classments determinate by the individual classment of each rider of a team during the individual race.
One country can have several team, but a same rider can't race for 2 teams.
Each rider of a team fight again each rider of the other team.
So we have 9 runs, the first team who win 5 runs is winner.
No time : Only judges in the arrival area who determinate the winner and give a point to a nation.
So now you can begin to prepare your national team(s)!!!!!

That's right Johan. That wouldn't be fair. I did think about that too but didn't want to make it look to complicated at the first glance. Having had a good nights sleep to think it through this is what I propose.
At age 40 the age penalty drop with 0.2 per each age year. Examples...
Man 40: 20 sec + 4 sec = 24 sec
Man 45: 21 sec + 4 sec - 1 sec = 24 sec
Man 50: 22 sec + 4 sec - 2 sec = 24 sec
Man 60: 24 sec + 4 sec - 4 sec = 24 sec
Wom 40: 22 + 2 sec = 24 sec
Wom 45: 23 sec + 2 sec - 1 sec = 24 sec
Wom 50: 24 sec + 2 sec - 2 sec = 24 sec
Wom 60: 26 sec + 2 sec - 4 sec = 24 sec
The courses best suited for this "ability mix" would be a loose GS I guess. And don't forget this is only a "fun competition".

Each man age year is 0.1 second penalty.
Each woman age year is 0.05 second penalty.
With a course of 20 seconds this means...
40 year skater: 20 sec + 4 sec = 24 sec
20 year skater: 22 sec + 2 sec = 24 sec
20 year woman skater: 23 + 1 sec = 24 sec
Hmm, interesting.
Age could be a handicap and then maybe some kind of handicap system is justified but what happens if you are 60 ?
60 year skater: 18 sec + 6 sec = 24 sec...

[2004] Antibes - International slalom, Sept 11-12, 2004
Some information about the international slalom of ANTIBES/FRANCE
First we changed the date we annouced 3 months ago: it will be held September, 11-12th, in Antibes.
What's new for this year?
TIMING: Difficult to do all the courses correctly last year (in just one day).
Now you'll have 2 complete days for slalom (downhill will be held one week later).
PLACE:The tight and special slalom will be held on a practically flat place along the sea. We keep place for different activity as freestyle.... The giant slalom stays on the famous and fast "LA GAROUPE BEACH";
RULES: Rules will be ISSA rules. You'll have a special place for racers information.
DISCIPLINES: "Tight slalom" which we call "Cyber slalom" in France.
"special slalom", with final in dual, "giant slalom" : Long and fast open slalom. (2 runs)
And to finish : The "nation team slalom" (team of 3 riders from the same country, fighting against another country).
PRECISE INFORMATION : next month http://planet-longskate.com
